Job DescriptionJob Title: Phlebotomist II Job Description This Phlebotomist II role focuses on performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collections while supporting a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment. You will handle a variety of clinical tasks, troubleshoot issues, participate in training, and recommend workflow improvements to help ensure safe, accurate, and efficient patient care. Responsibilities • Perform venipuncture and blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles with a high level of accuracy and patient care., • Collect, handle, and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols., • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture, blood draw, and other specimen collection procedures to patients., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all information for accuracy., • Label specimens accurately, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing samples as required by specific test orders., • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts or orders to ensure 100% correctness., • Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity by following temperature and handling requirements., • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in the appropriate collection containers or tubes., • Follow specific protocols for specimen handling and transport to maintain sample quality and compliance., • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a safe laboratory environment., • Troubleshoot routine issues in the phlebotomy workflow and make recommendations to improve efficiency and quality., • Update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems and documentation., • Fully understand and correctly interpret physicians’ orders related to laboratory testing and specimen requirements., • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results or information as appropriate to satisfy inquiries., • Attend annual departmental training sessions and remain current with procedures, policies, and regulations., • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and compliance standards.Essential Skills, • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required., • Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience, including at least 6 months performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting., • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draws, venipuncture, and specimen collection., • Ability to collect and process specimens according to established procedures and test requirements., • Strong attention to detail when labeling, matching requisitions, and handling specimens., • Ability to clearly explain procedures and provide courteous, patient-focused customer service., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite., • High school diploma or GED., • Ability to understand and follow physicians’ orders accurately., • Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • 2–4 years of overall experience in a clinical, laboratory, or hospital environment., • Experience working in a fast-paced setting with multiple priorities., • Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel., • Organizational skills to manage multiple specimens, requisitions, and documentation accurately., • Comfort with learning and following detailed protocols and standard operating procedures., • Customer service orientation with a focus on patient comfort and positive experience.Work Environment This position is based in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting that requires consistent attention to detail and adherence to safety standards. The role follows a Monday through Friday first-shift schedule, with additional Saturday hours as needed. You will work with standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, including needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and computers running Microsoft Office and laboratory systems. The environment emphasizes regulatory compliance, cleanliness, and proper specimen handling to maintain sample integrity and support high-quality patient care. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Perth Amboy, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
