Job DescriptionDescription: The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications/resumes for a part time Maintenance Handyman. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the water front city of Perth Amboy. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility. Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Handyman will carry out various carpentry tasks to maintain the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the YMCA facility, its properties, and grounds. The role requires sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Maintenance Assistant also supports and promotes the organization's mission, embodying the core values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect, and Faith; while demonstrating. cause driven leadership qualities through the following YMCA Leadership Competencies - Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness, and Personal Growth. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Prepare vacant residential apartments as needed, handling tasks such as cleaning, carpentry, electrical, tile/grout, sheetrock/painting, and plumbing., • Maintain and upkeep of landscaping and grounds for all YMCA properties, including snow removal and the application of snowmelt., • Perform regular inspections, identify potential issues or concerns, and provide recommendations for necessary repairs., • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, code enforcement, and company policies., • Manage inventory of cleaning and repair supplies, and submit Supply and Equipment Requisitions promptly to ensure all necessary materials are available for task completion., • Drive vehicles required to perform duties, or travel to work sites., • Free YMCA Staff Membership, • 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan - eligible upon hire, • Paid NJ Sick Leave, • Proven experience in general maintenance, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work., • High school diploma or equivalent education required., • Independent, self-starter who manages tasks and responsibilities with minimal direction and supervision., • Ability to work independently, with attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship., • Maintains a safety-first mindset, proactively identifying and addressing potential safety and security concerns., • Proficient in reading and interpreting manuals, procedures, instructions, and other relevant documents., • Capable of safely performing physical tasks such as climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects, crouching, kneeling, bending, and twisting., • Knowledgeable in the proper handling and application of maintenance-related chemicals., • Strong interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds., • Displays a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor in interactions with members, visitors, and staff.
