Job DescriptionDescription: The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications/resumes for a part time Maintenance Handyman. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the water front city of Perth Amboy. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Handyman will carry out various carpentry tasks to maintain the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the YMCA facility, its properties, and grounds. The role requires sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Prepare vacant residential apartments as needed, handling tasks such as cleaning, carpentry, electrical, tile/grout, sheetrock/painting, and plumbing., • Maintain and upkeep of landscaping and grounds for all YMCA properties, including snow removal and the application of snowmelt., • Perform regular inspections, identify potential issues or concerns, and provide recommendations for necessary repairs., • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, code enforcement, and company policies., • Manage inventory of cleaning and repair supplies, and submit Supply and Equipment Requisitions promptly to ensure all necessary materials are available for task completion., • Drive vehicles required to perform duties, or travel to work sites., • Free YMCA Staff Membership, • 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan - eligible upon hire, • Paid NJ Sick Leave, • Proven experience in general maintenance, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work., • High school diploma or equivalent education required., • Independent, self-starter who manages tasks and responsibilities with minimal direction and supervision., • Ability to work independently, with attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship., • Maintains a safety-first mindset, proactively identifying and addressing potential safety and security concerns., • Proficient in reading and interpreting manuals, procedures, instructions, and other relevant documents., • Capable of safely performing physical tasks such as climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects, crouching, kneeling, bending, and twisting., • Knowledgeable in the proper handling and application of maintenance-related chemicals., • Strong interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds., • Displays a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor in interactions with members, visitors, and staff.

Job Description We are now looking to hire a technician for the New Jersey & New York City market! We have existing relationships with several major national retail chains. About the Position: Full Time Preferred weekly schedule is Wednesday - Sunday. We’re willing to discuss the weekly schedule with the right candidate if there is flexibility needed. Times may vary, but generally 8am - 4pm or 9am - 5pm depending on the customer's needs. It is expected that you will work past 5pm on some workdays. Once fully trained, you will be required to be ‘on call’ every 4th week. Weekend and overnight work receives ‘time and half pay’ and always a minimum paid amount regardless of hours worked. (Training period is typically 1 - 2 months, depending on the performance and comfort level. There is ‘training pay’ during the training period.) This career is ideal for someone who enjoys working in different trades each day, and driving to different store locations, generally within a 1 hour radius. You will be given a great deal of independence, and in many ways you will be operating independently as a W2 employee. * Treat our clients in a very friendly and professional manner as customer service is the most important aspect of our company. * Communicate effectively with others. * Promote a positive work environment. Desirable Qualifications: * Prefer candidates with a strong plumbing or handyman background. * Minimum of 5 years of repair and maintenance experience required. * The ideal candidate will be well rounded in most trades. * Typical repair and maintenance such as electrical, plumbing, and general handyman work including painting, caulking, tiling, etc. * We seek candidates who truly enjoy working in their field and those that possess attention to detail, follow through, and take pride in their work. * Candidates must have a clean and valid driver’s license with no major infractions within the past 7 years. Our company will provide a work van, and all tools necessary to complete the jobs. Must maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the company vehicle. Job Responsibilities: • Drive and transport samples and personnel around the NY Metro Area using company vehicles (Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, and similar)., • Complete all pickups and deliveries as assigned; ensure timely delivery to customers., • Keep daily/weekly driver logs and maintain mileage records., • Monitor and follow the maintenance schedule for all company vehicles., • Provide regular updates on your activities and location to the manager for work coordination., • Make daily calls to the department manager to report progress on tasks., • Pick up and deliver construction materials and equipment as needed., • Assist with office purchases and other administrative tasks., • Use navigation apps and GPS devices to find the most efficient routes; extensive knowledge of the NY Metro Area is a plus., • Interact with clients professionally and maintain positive relationships with them and inspectors., • Maintain an organized travel schedule., • Ensure vehicles have sufficient gas and are always ready for use., • Arrange vehicle repairs and conduct regular vehicle maintenance checks. Work Environment: • You'll work on active construction sites and occasionally in a soils/concrete testing lab, so expect to get dirty and work outdoors in various weather conditions., • Tasks may include handyman/landscaping duties, coring concrete/asphalt samples, and assisting construction material and machine shop personnel. Physical Requirements: • Long periods of standing and repetitive motions are required., • Ability to use hands for tasks such as handling, climbing, balancing, crouching, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and sitting., • Good vision (close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception) and sense of smell., • You may drive hundreds of miles per day and regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds, frequently move 60-80 pounds, and occasionally more than 100 pounds (like a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples). Qualifications: • 3+ years of driving experience in similar vehicles, with at least 1 year of driving experience in NYC., • Basic math skills., • Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written., • Ability to read maps and follow directions accurately.
