A mission-driven legal initiative is seeking a Part-Time Paralegal to support its litigation and client intake efforts within a growing nonprofit focused on reproductive justice. This role blends traditional paralegal responsibilities with operational and administrative support, working closely with a small, high-impact legal team. Role: Part-Time Paralegal Location: Remote – Maplewood, NJ (must be within ~30 minutes for ocassional travel to Maplewood) Hours: Part-time (10–20 hours per week) Compensation: $25–30/hour (commensurate with experience) Key Responsibilities Litigation & Legal Support • Assist attorneys with case preparation, file organization, and record maintenance, • Prepare, format, and file legal documents in state and federal courts (electronic and physical), • Support discovery processes, including document collection, review, and organization, • Draft and track requests for medical records (including HIPAA releases and affidavits), • Conduct basic legal and factual research and review court filing requirements, • Prepare basic filings such as pro hac vice motions Document Management & Client Intake • Manage intake and organization of client records and materials, • Collect, scan, and upload physical documents into document management systems, • Handle sensitive legal materials, including pickup from local P.O. box, • Maintain accurate digital and physical filing systems with strict confidentiality Operations & Administrative Support • Track case deadlines, calendars, and court schedules, • Coordinate meetings, filings, and case-related logistics, • Support internal workflows across legal and program teams, • Assist with administrative tasks including travel coordination, expense tracking, and basic IT troubleshooting, • Maintain tracking systems for cases, clients, and documentation Ideal Background • 1–3 years of experience in a paralegal, legal assistant, or similar role, • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail, • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and document management systems, • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion, • Must be located within ~30 minutes of Maplewood, NJ and able to support in-person document handling Preferred: • Experience in a law firm, litigation setting, or nonprofit legal organization, • Familiarity with court filing systems (state and/or federal), • Exposure to medical records, personal injury, or civil rights work, • Interest in reproductive justice or impact litigation
