Job Description Canyon seeks a full-time Associate Director of Digital Content to oversee its digital content, including social media, website, and digital email marketing. Who we are Canyon is a nonprofit arts venue opening in 2026 on the Lower East Side of NYC, dedicated to the exhibition of time-based media art and performance. Position Overview The Associate Director of Digital Content is the primary architect of Canyon's digital narrative. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this role transforms our mission-bringing durational and time-based art to the center of the cultural conversation-into compelling, high-impact stories that resonate across social media, our website, and digital email marketing. We are looking for a visionary storyteller who balances a creative soul with a marketing mindset. You will lead the charge in elevating Canyon's brand presence from the ground up, turning passive followers into a dedicated community through innovative, multi-platform content that reflects our unique Lower East Side energy. Key Responsibilities • Narrative Strategy & Marketing Launch: Lead the digital-first content strategy for our 2026 opening. Prioritize storytelling that drives brand awareness and directly supports marketing goals, including brand elevation, ticket sales for performances, membership growth, and venue hospitality., • Social Media Innovation: Lead the creative direction for all social channels. We aren't just "posting"; we are creating a digital extension of our 40,000-square-foot space. You will stay ahead of trends to position Canyon as a digital leader in the global cultural sector., • Website & Editorial Oversight: Manage the "voice" of the Canyon website. Ensure the user journey-from discovering a performance to booking a table-is supported by evocative copy, state-of-the-art visuals, and a clear brand narrative., • Email Marketing: Responsible for the complete lifecycle of email marketing communications for Canyon, including strategy, planning, execution, and analysis. This role ensures content aligns with institutional goals and effectively engages target audiences., • Performance & Optimization: Use data-driven insights to measure the "why" behind the "what." Analyze performance metrics to refine storytelling techniques and maximize ROI for our inaugural season., • Creative Collaboration: Act as the bridge between curatorial, development, and hospitality to unearth stories and bring our mission to life in fresh, digital ways., • Master Storyteller: Exceptional ability to craft narratives across different formats (short-form video, editorial, social threads) that elicit emotional responses and drive action., • Digital Marketing Savvy: Experience supporting, designing, and/or implementing email marketing strategy, preferably within a cultural institution, arts organization, or nonprofit., • Strategic Leadership: Proven experience managing creative workflows, external vendors, and internal stakeholders with a collaborative, "big picture" approach., • 7+ years of experience in digital media, content strategy, or brand marketing, ideally within the cultural, hospitality, or creative sectors., • Portfolio of Work: Demonstrated success in launching major campaigns or digital editorial projects that moved the needle on engagement or brand perception., • Platform Expertise: High proficiency in social media management (e.g., Sprout Social), design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud), and CMS platforms., • Technical Basics: Working knowledge of video editing (Premiere Pro/After Effects) to oversee or refine high-fidelity multimedia production., • Email Marketing Proficiency: Knowledge and experience executing campaigns using email marketing software (Mailchimp, Constant Contact), proficient knowledge of HTML, • Experience in A/B testing, audience segmentation, and analyzing performance data and making data-driven decisions. Salary is commensurate with experience. The expected range is $100,000 - $115,000. This is a full-time salaried position.
