Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Laser Operator Job Description The CNC Laser Operator sets up and operates 5-axis CNC laser cutting equipment to produce precision components from metal alloys. This role requires strong knowledge of CNC machinery, familiarity with NC programming, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints. The position involves moderate physical activity, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, while maintaining high quality and safety standards in a machine shop environment. Responsibilities • Set up and operate 5-axis CNC laser machines to cut and process metal alloy parts according to engineering drawings and blueprints., • Install and adjust fixtures, vises, rotary tables, and related tooling to properly secure parts for cutting operations., • Pick up part and fixture locations to establish cutting planes and ensure accurate machine setup., • Interpret dimensions and tolerances in both metric and inch units to meet blueprint specifications., • Inspect fabricated parts to blueprint requirements using appropriate measuring tools and gauges., • Perform measurements of fabricated parts and verify conformance to dimensional tolerances and quality standards., • Identify and communicate machine performance issues, quality concerns, and potential process improvements to management as they arise., • Apply knowledge of mathematical calculations and trigonometry, including solving right triangles on parts, to support accurate setup and machining., • Work on repetitive production runs, producing parts in batches and managing multiple setups each day as required., • Perform all other duties as assigned or directed within the machine shop or in other assigned work areas.Essential Skills, • Minimum of three (3) years of experience setting up and operating 5-axis CNC laser machines., • Hands-on experience working in a machine shop environment with CNC equipment., • Knowledge of CNC machines and familiarity with NC programming concepts., • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints accurately., • Proficiency in interpreting dimensions and tolerances in both metric and inch systems., • Strong understanding of metal alloys and their behavior during laser cutting operations., • Knowledge of mathematical concepts and trigonometry, including the ability to solve right triangles., • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as dial calipers, micrometers, height gauges, precision protractors, and indicators., • Capability to identify and clearly communicate machine and quality issues to supervision or management., • Ability to perform moderate physical exertion, including lifting, bending, and standing for considerable periods.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience operating 5-axis CNC laser systems utilizing A, B, C, and D axes and rotary tables., • Familiarity with Mazak or similar CNC laser equipment., • Experience setting up fixtures, vises, and rotary tables for complex part geometries., • Willingness to work at assigned jobs both within and outside the machine shop department as needed., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components., • Ability to work effectively with repetitive production tasks and multiple daily setups.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a machine shop environment on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, following a 4x10 alternative work schedule. Work involves operating 5-axis CNC laser equipment, including the use of fixtures, vises, rotary tables, and precision measuring instruments. The position requires standing for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks, and producing parts in batches of approximately 20–30 pieces, with about 2–3 different setups per day, depending on production needs. The environment is typical of a fabrication and machining facility, with active equipment, metalworking processes, and a focus on safety, accuracy, and consistent production flow. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $38.00/hr.
