Job Description Job Title: Assistant Project Manager Job Description The Assistant Project Manager supports the onsite Project Manager on commercial construction projects. This role plays a key part in coordinating documentation, communication, and field activities, ensuring projects progress smoothly, safely, and on schedule. The position offers exposure to large-scale projects and the opportunity to grow within a dynamic construction environment. Responsibilities • Support the onsite Project Manager with day-to-day project coordination and administration on active construction sites., • Prepare, process, and track submittals to ensure timely review and approval in accordance with project specifications., • Draft, issue, and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify plans, specifications, and field conditions., • Create and maintain daily reports that accurately document site activities, progress, manpower, equipment, and any issues encountered., • Record detailed meeting minutes for project meetings, capturing decisions, action items, and follow-ups, and distribute them to relevant stakeholders., • Assist with preparing, reviewing, and tracking change orders, ensuring proper documentation and communication of scope changes., • Collaborate closely with field teams, subcontractors, and the general contractor to support smooth project execution., • Coordinate with self-performed carpentry crews and subcontractors, helping to ensure work is sequenced and completed according to schedule., • Support project documentation management, including organizing drawings, specifications, and correspondence., • Contribute to maintaining strong relationships with project partners and stakeholders through clear and professional communication., • Demonstrate a willingness to jump in wherever needed to help resolve issues and keep the project moving forward., • Assist initially on a large Watertown project and then transition to the healthcare project in Alexandria Bay, providing consistent project support., • Remain flexible and prepared to support additional projects across upstate New York as needed. Essential Skills • Strong proficiency with construction documentation, including submittals, RFIs, daily reports, meeting minutes, and change orders., • Experience in commercial construction environments, preferably supporting project management functions., • Ability to work onsite and closely support a Project Manager on active construction projects., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting project activities and communicating with stakeholders., • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and documentation streams simultaneously., • Demonstrated team-oriented mindset and willingness to actively support colleagues and field teams., • Comfort working in a fast-paced construction setting with changing priorities and timelines., • Willingness and ability to travel to various project sites across upstate New York, including northern regions and cities such as Ithaca, Binghamton, and Rochester. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience as an Assistant Project Manager or in a similar project support role within commercial construction., • Familiarity with healthcare construction projects, including additions and renovations to existing facilities., • Experience coordinating with general contractors and multiple subcontractors on large-scale projects., • Exposure to projects in the $10M–$20M range or similar complex construction efforts., • Understanding of basic carpentry and self-performed work coordination is beneficial., • Ability to adapt quickly when transitioning between different project sites and scopes., • A background in construction management, engineering, or a related field is advantageous, even if obtained through practical experience rather than formal education. Work Environment This role is primarily onsite. The Assistant Project Manager operates in an active construction environment, collaborating daily with the onsite Project Manager, general contractor, subcontractors, and self-performed carpentry crews. Work is centered around large commercial projects, including a $10M healthcare addition and renovation and future projects in the $20M range in the Lowville/Glenfield area. The position involves regular travel to various job sites across upstate New York, including northern regions and cities such as Ithaca, Binghamton, and Binghamton and Rochester. The environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative, and focused on safety, quality, and meeting project schedules, offering hands-on experience and significant exposure to complex construction projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Watertown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.05/hr.
