Job Description Job Summary The Food Production Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support continuous manufacturing operations. This position performs preventive maintenance, diagnoses and repairs mechanical and electrical equipment failures, and helps minimize downtime while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including USDA, FDA, GMP, and HACCP requirements. This position offers opportunities for continued technical development through on-the-job training and hands-on experience. Shift: 2nd and 3rd Shift Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on food processing and packaging equipment, including mixers, conveyors, slicers, ovens, pumps, and related machinery., • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and welding-related equipment issues., • Safely dismantle, repair, rebuild, and reassemble production equipment using appropriate tools and testing equipment., • Respond promptly to production equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests to minimize downtime., • Inspect, adjust, and service production machinery to ensure optimal performance and reliability., • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records, repair logs, and equipment documentation., • Monitor and manage spare parts inventory to support efficient maintenance operations., • Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition., • Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor., • Identify and report equipment conditions that could impact employee safety, food safety, product quality, or production efficiency., • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and machine guarding requirements., • Perform all maintenance activities in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), USDA, FDA, OSHA, and all company food safety requirements., • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency., • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required • High school diploma or GED required., • Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment., • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills., • General knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical equipment., • Metal fabrication experience., • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and work instructions., • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team., • Effective verbal communication skills., • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in food manufacturing, food processing, beverage, or pharmaceutical production., • Vocational training, Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance, or Journeyman Certification., • Experience working with:, • 480V electrical systems, • Three-phase electrical systems, • PLC troubleshooting, • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), • AC/DC motors, • Gearboxes, • Welding and fabrication experience., • Bilingual in English and Spanish. Knowledge and Skills • Preventive and predictive maintenance techniques., • Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting., • Industrial welding and fabrication., • OSHA safety regulations., • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures., • Food safety regulations, including GMP, HACCP, and SSOP requirements., • Strong organizational and documentation skills., • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance tasks in a production environment. Physical Requirements • Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds., • Stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, squat, climb ladders, and reach for extended periods., • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated, freezer, and heated production areas., • Ability to visually inspect machinery and equipment and distinguish equipment abnormalities., • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Work Environment This position is performed in a food manufacturing facility. Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment, varying temperatures, moisture, cleaning chemicals, and production noise. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and must be worn in designated areas.
