Position Summary The Hospice Transport Driver provides safe, courteous, and dependable transportation for hospice patients throughout Las Cruces and within the the very closely surrounding communities. This position works closely with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure patients arrive safely for medical appointments, hospice-related services, or other approved destinations while maintaining patient comfort, confidentiality, and respect. Essential Responsibilities Safely transport hospice patients to and from homes, assisted living facilities, nursing facilities, hospitals, and other approved destinations. Assist patients entering and exiting vehicles using appropriate safety techniques and mobility equipment, including wheelchairs and walkers when applicable. Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and dignity throughout every transport. Communicate professionally with patients, families, caregivers, and members of the hospice interdisciplinary team. Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness, safety, and readiness. Report vehicle maintenance concerns promptly. Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and required documentation. Adhere to all HIPAA privacy and confidentiality requirements. Observe and promptly report changes in a patient's condition or safety concerns to the appropriate clinical team member. Follow all Mesilla Valley Hospice policies and procedures, infection prevention protocols, and safety guidelines. Represent Mesilla Valley Hospice with professionalism and compassion in the community. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED. Valid New Mexico driver's license. Valid CNA certification Clean driving record with the ability to meet Mesilla Valley Hospice insurance requirements. Current automobile insurance if using a personal vehicle for hospice business. Ability to safely assist patients with limited mobility. Ability to lift, push, or assist with mobility equipment in accordance with established safety practices. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality. Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain within the required timeframe. Preferred Experience in hospice, home health, healthcare transportation, senior care, or patient services. Knowledge of Southern New Mexico roadways and surrounding communities. Experience working with elderly or medically fragile individuals. Working Environment This position requires frequent travel throughout Las Cruces, and surrounding communities. Drivers must be comfortable working in private homes, hospitals, nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other healthcare settings. The position requires regular lifting, bending, standing, walking, and assisting patients with mobility while using proper body mechanics and safety procedures. Job Description Non-Emergency Vehicle Driver / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Department: Clinical Services Reports To: Director of Nursing / Clinical Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt --- Position Summary The Non-Emergency Vehicle Driver / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing safe, compassionate interfacility transportation for hospice patients while supporting direct patient care services within the Inpatient Unit (IPU) and Assisted Living Facility (ALF). This position ensures patients are transported safely, comfortably, and with dignity, while also assisting with personal care and clinical support duties when assigned to a unit. The role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to respond appropriately in changing clinical situations. --- Essential Duties & Responsibilities Interfacility Transportation · Safely operate agency Non-Emergency Transport Vehicle in compliance with all state and federal regulations. · Operate vehicle in compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations, using defensive driving techniques. · Transport patients between facilities, hospitals, homes, ALFs, and Mesilla Valley Hospice inpatient unit. · Assist with patient loading and unloading using proper body mechanics and equipment. · Ensure patient comfort and safety during transport. · Communicate transport updates with nursing staff and receiving facilities. · Complete all required transport documentation accurately and timely. · Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical and safety systems are in working order; report any defects promptly. · Maintain vehicle cleanliness, readiness, and fuel levels. --- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Duties (IPU & ALF) · Provide direct patient care including bathing, grooming, toileting, repositioning, feeding, and ambulation assistance. · Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the nurse. · Assist with vital signs as directed. · Support comfort measures in alignment with hospice philosophy of care. · Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment. · Assist nursing staff during admissions, discharges, and post-mortem care as needed. --- Required Qualifications · Must be 21 years or older · DOT Physical · Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing. · Valid driver’s license with clean driving record for previous 5 years. · BLS certification and First Aid. · Ability to pass background check · Substance screening (including alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP)).; screening to include Pre-Employment, Random screening, post-accident screening, and return to duty screening. · Ability to safely lift, transfer, and move patients (minimum 50 lbs.). · Must obtain Certified Transport Specialist (CTS) within 6 months of hire. --- Preferred Qualifications · Experience in hospice, long-term care, or hospital setting. · Previous medical transport or ambulance driving experience. · Knowledge of basic life support procedures, and first aid. --- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities · Strong commitment to hospice philosophy and compassionate end-of-life care. · Ability to maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times. · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. · Calm demeanor in stressful or emotional situations. · Strong time management and organizational skills. · Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or on-call shifts if required. --- Work Environment · Regular travel between multiple facilities and patient care locations. · Potential exposure to a variety of medical conditions, infectious diseases, and end-of-life care situations. · Dynamic, fast-paced clinical setting that requires flexibility, adaptability, and strong teamwork skills. --- Physical Requirements · Prolonged periods of driving. · Extended periods of driving between locations. · Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting. · Ability to push and maneuver stretchers and wheelchairs, and assist with patient transfers. · Must safely perform all physical tasks associated with direct patient care, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, repositioning, and assisting with patient mobility. · Ability to independently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; must use approved safe patient handling equipment and techniques for heavier loads.
