We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Project Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment across all construction sites while managing the technical and operational aspects of underground utility projects. Key Responsibilities: • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all phases of underground construction projects from pre-construction through closeout., • Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards., • Coordinate project setup, including securing necessary permits, licenses, and project documentation., • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-effective completion., • Lead field crews and subcontractors to achieve project goals while maintaining safety and quality standards., • Manage equipment logistics, material procurement, and delivery coordination., • Perform field engineering tasks such as layout verification, grade checks, and utility coordination., • Schedule and oversee required testing, inspections, and documentation., • Prepare, review, and process project submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress reports., • Maintain accurate project records, including as-built drawings and daily progress updates., • Conduct risk assessments and ensure all project objectives, safety requirements, and quality standards are met., • Utilize project management software (such as HCSS) to monitor performance, productivity, and progress., • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and project stakeholders., • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability across all project teams., • Stay current with industry technologies, regulations, and best practices Qualifications/ Memberships: • Valid California drivers license with a clean driving record (please submit current DMV printout)., • CPR & First Aid Certified (course must be completed in person; online certifications not accepted)., • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications required., • Experience in underground construction and utility installation strongly preferred. Experience, Competencies & Skills: • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or equivalent technical training and relevant experience., • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Project Manager or Project Engineer in the construction industry., • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage field crews, subcontractors, and coordinate operations., • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills., • Proficiency in project documentation, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control., • Experience in underground utility work (water, sewer, storm drain, or dry utilities) is highly preferred., • Familiarity with HCSS or similar construction management software is a plus., • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred., • In-depth knowledge of Cal/OSHA, trench and excavation safety, and general construction safety standards., • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively at all organizational levels., • Proficient in record-keeping, reporting, and regulatory documentation., • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced field environment. Safety Factors The Project Engineer must consistently model the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure all employees comply with PPE and safety requirements. Regularly assess and identify potential risks and hazards within the workplace, providing recommendations for mitigation. When conducting field visits, adhere to safety protocols relevant to the specific project and promote employee well-being through proactive safety engagement and training. Safety Equipment The Project Engineer must wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed boots when conducting field visits or inspections. Utilize safety tools such as flashlights, measuring instruments, and safety inspection checklists. Be familiar with and have access to emergency response equipment, including first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and evacuation plans. Carry communication devices such as radios or mobile phones for coordination and emergency response. Pay Transparency Notice: In accordance with California law, the pay scale for this position is Exempt: $95,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
