American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. • Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 01/05/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a current CA license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications for a day shift assignment. • Position is in an acute ICU setting with a 20-bed unit, • Patients include neuro, radical cancer surgeries, abdominal, urology, vascular, respiratory failure, sepsis, oncologic and select post-operative cases, • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity, • Uses Cerner EMR system; Phillips telemetry and ventilators (RT manages vents, nurses troubleshoot), • Primary schedule is 12-hour day shifts, with a requirement of 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks, • First to float within ICU, with float requirements to ER, telemetry, med-surg units, and to a sister facility, • Call may be assigned if staff is reduced, • Hospitalist or Intensivist on call 24/7; RT and pharmacy in unit 24/7, • Floor-specific orientation provided (minimum 2 shifts plus one for Cerner), • Navy blue scrubs required, • Responsibilities include care of a diverse ICU population including neuro, surgical, and oncology patients as well as ventilator troubleshooting, • Work closely with a nurse shift manager or charge nurse each shift; resource nurse typically available, • PICC/midline team available for IV access, • Holiday coverage required: one major and two minors during Christmas period (eves considered minors), • Travelers will rarely be floated mid-shift and may work at both campuses, • First to float rotation among staff applies to travelers, • Testing and/or training modules on dysrhythmia and sterile technique may be required, • No nurse aides in unit; nurses are expected to participate actively in patient care, • Active, current CA RN license at time of consideration, • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), • Documented references: one supervisor reference from within the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the past 3 years, • Copy of a valid driver's license required for consideration, • Night shift candidates must have ICU experience at both campuses, • Candidates may not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI and/or Dignity within the past year, • Pass/fail test on sterile technique may be required during orientation, • Nursys verification and active license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy, • Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-643144.
