Job DescriptionJob Title: Sheet Metal Foreman / InstallerJob Description This role leads a field crew in the installation, assembly, and repair of sheet metal duct systems and related HVAC components on large commercial and high-rise projects. The foreman works hands-on alongside the team, reads and interprets blueprints, plans and lays out work, coordinates materials, and serves as the primary on-site contact for project questions and communication with the office. Responsibilities • Lead and supervise a crew of approximately 5–10 sheet metal installers on commercial and high-rise projects., • Work as a hands-on foreman, performing installations alongside the crew while providing direction and oversight., • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact, answering customer questions and coordinating with the office and project stakeholders., • Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to plan and lay out ductwork and related sheet metal installations., • Lay out work areas and mark dimensions and reference lines for duct runs, fittings, and equipment locations., • Order and coordinate delivery of materials, tools, and supplies required to complete assigned projects., • Conduct and lead on-site safety meetings and ensure compliance with safety policies and OSHA regulations., • Assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment, including ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings., • Install prefabricated sheet metal ducts used for heating, air conditioning, and other ventilation purposes., • Perform duct work installation, including cutting, measuring, hanging, and securing spiral and rectangular duct systems., • Shape sheet metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammers and other hand tools to achieve required dimensions and configurations., • Use soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts and ensure strong, durable connections., • Inspect, assemble, and smooth seams and joints of sheet metal to remove burrs and ensure tight, clean finishes., • Coordinate and verify HVAC fabrication requirements for ductwork and related components., • Review project progress, identify potential issues, and adjust work plans to meet schedules and quality standards., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, ensuring proper storage and handling of tools and materials., • Collaborate with other trades and contractors on site to sequence work and avoid conflicts., • Ensure all work meets applicable codes, specifications, and quality expectations.Essential Skills, • 10+ years of duct work installation experience, including hands-on sheet metal and HVAC duct installation (flexibility on years may depend on pay rate)., • Proficiency in installing sheet metal ducts for heating, air conditioning, and other ventilation systems on commercial and high-rise projects., • OSHA 30 certification., • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings for layout and installation., • Demonstrated experience leading and running a crew of 5–10 installers on job sites., • Experience working independently as a foreman, managing a site without direct supervision., • Proficiency in duct work installation, including cutting, measuring, hanging, and securing duct systems., • Experience with spiral duct work installation., • Hands-on experience with HVAC installation and HVAC fabrication., • Ability to assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings., • Skill in shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammers and related tools., • Experience using soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts and finish seams and joints., • Strong communication skills for coordinating with customers, office staff, and on-site personnel., • Solid understanding of safety practices and ability to conduct safety meetings.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience on high-rise commercial projects, including hotels, theaters, large retailers, apartment buildings, and office buildings., • Background working with sheet metal / tin knocker, HVAC, and mechanical systems., • Ability to perform layout design for duct systems based on blueprints and field conditions., • Familiarity with installing and servicing HVAC equipment in large commercial environments., • Experience working with multi-trade teams on complex projects., • Strong organizational skills to manage materials, schedules, and crew assignments.Why Work Here? Work Environment The organization has over 30 years of experience in the design, engineering, service, and installation of HVAC equipment and operates as a multi-million-dollar corporation. Projects include installation and servicing of HVAC equipment for hotels, theaters, large retailers, apartment buildings, and offices throughout the New York area. Work is primarily performed on active construction sites and high-rise commercial buildings, requiring regular use of sheet metal tools, soldering and welding equipment, and standard HVAC installation equipment. Normal working hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of overtime and weekend hours as project needs require. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to OSHA standards, and professional conduct on job sites. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
