Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company. Responsibilities may include, but not limited to: • Performs all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspects tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required., • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies., • Immediately reports all safety hazards. Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight., • Performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Checks and completes in an accurate and in legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight., • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed., • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule. Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas., • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy. Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Collects money (cash or checks) where required., • Loads customer returns on to trailer and secures trailer doors. Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured., • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork. Unloads all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required., • Completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements., • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required. Job Description A full-time mechanic at Traffic Safety is a bit different from a mechanic position at other companies. As it currently stands, we have full-time mechanic work for about 4-6 months of the year, depending on the weather. Because of this, you will be responsible for helping out in other areas of the company when mechanic work is not available. Your responsibilities includes, but are not limited to: · Build, install and repair snowplows and spreaders on customer vehicles · Keeping customers vehicles and possessions safe and not damaging them during work · Assisting customers with questions and technical support both in person and on the phone · Working with any and all equipment/mechanical needs the company decides to bring on (lawnmowers, motorcycles, ATV, snowblowers, dumpbodies etc.) · Inventory management with keeping parts in their correct places and keeping the area tidy · Keeping your personal tools and work area clean and organized · Assisting in the shipping department with order fulfillment both with UPS and LTL shipments · Assisting with inventory management in other departments – receiving shipments with forklift, organizing the inventory, pulling product and helping load customers · Production in the sign shop With our business being seasonal in nature, some seasons will have a heavier workload and some will be lighter. Typically, the fall and winter consist of our busy season, bringing about 3/5 of total revenue for the company in around 4-5 months. As a result of this, combined with the role the mechanic plays during these times, vacation time is hard to approve during the busy plow months and employees are encouraged to take their time off outside of the October-January/February time frame. This must be something understood and accepted. That being said, I do understand life happens during those months and some things might get exceptions, but as a whole it should be avoided. Our typical work day begins at 8am and ends at 4:30pm with a 1-hour lunch break for employees. All employees are expected to be ready to work at the start time, which typically means arriving a few minutes early to get set up for the day. We typically try to stagger our breaks so that there are always people around to help if needed. You would coordinate your breaks with Nick. We also offer summer hours, which are 7:30am to 3:30pm. These hours begin sometime around the end of the plow season and run until the beginning of September. Once the plow season gets kicked off, there is the possibility of Saturday hours when necessary. Saturday work helps us get caught up on work as well as push for the extra revenue when the work is available. These hours are never obligatory and are at the discretion of the employee. We typically would be open for business from 8am-noon on those days, some times staying later if there is the work, but being closed to the public. These hours for hourly employees are added into their total hourly rate. For salaried employees, it’s added in as 1.25x their hourly rate. Some seasons, we have about 2 months worth of Saturday hours and other seasons, like last year, we had only 1-2 Saturdays we were open.
