Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy where home energy technology works to put money back in customers’ pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition. We’re an Australian headquartered company, where we are both an energy technology company and a utility providing energy directly to households and small businesses. In Australia (the world leader on rooftop solar and a 2-way energy grid), we’ve proven that the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries, EVs, and other smart energy devices. Customers get direct access to the real-time electricity prices and the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and export to the grid at times when the price they can be paid for it is highest. We are a clear market leader in energy automation in Australia, and are now partnering with utilities across Europe to bring our technology to European markets and consumers. We’re at a critical moment in taking the business to scale in Europe. You’ll be joining a rapidly growing regional team of 15, and be part of a global team of over 220, with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world. We’re backed by leading VCs in Australia and Europe, as well as impact-focused investors and world-leading energy companies. At Amber, we believe that enabling a culture where everyone is set up to do the best work of their lives, and feels connected and supported, is one of the most important things we can do to ensure our long-term success. Want to help improve the environment by shifting the world’s energy usage towards renewables? We are currently hiring for a Full Stack Software Engineer. Amber provides a great opportunity to apply your skills as an Engineer to help enable the uptake of renewable energy. Our technology optimises thousands of batteries and other devices in the customers' homes, enabling them to time their usage to consume power at times of high renewable penetration (and cheap prices), and then export power back to the grid at critical times - letting them outbid energy generators and earn potentially >£50 in an afternoon. The Amber Electric product team develops and supports: • Home automation integrations (to batteries, hot water systems and pool pumps, with EVs coming soon) that control electricity usage in response to pricing and renewable availability, • Mobile & Web apps for customers to monitor and manage their energy usage, • A pricing and billing engine for real time energy pricing The tech stack is React Native mobile app, some React web frontends, and a Serverless Lambda backend on AWS. We’re using Typescript top to bottom, and Apollo GraphQL sits in the middle. We keep our data in DynamoDB, Postgres, and Snowflake, using one or the other as best suits a particular workload. You can learn more about our tech stack at _ While we’re looking for talented and driven individuals our desire is to build a champion team, not a team of champions. We’re full-stack-ish; while it’s impossible for everyone to excel across every layer of the stack we value people who can chip in wherever they’re needed. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace from the ground up. We want engineers who are as comfortable communicating with people as they are with their code. At Amber, we want to hire self-starters who are eager to learn, and are comfortable working in a changing environment. Some of the key traits we are looking for in this role: • You have a positive mindset: equal parts curious, collaborative, and can-do, • Between 3 and 5 years of commercial development experience in either Web or Mobile environments, • Commercial experience with the specific technologies in our stack is a strong plus, • Experience with languages sharing features with Typescript is also a plus (such as JavaScript, C#, Go, or similar), • We favour generalists who can be flexible across the stack, both frontend and backend, • Strong verbal and written communication skills built on a foundation of empathy for your fellow humans is essential, with English proficiency of C1/C2 level at a minimum, • Additional language skills, particularly in European languages, are a bonus and may support broader team and customer engagement., • Write and maintain high quality program code across the stack in the areas of your specialty, • Flexibly contribute outside your specialty in other areas of the stack supporting your team when they need it, • Work collaboratively with your peers in product and across the wider company to ensure you're always shipping the right thing the right way at the right time, • Research, consult, analyse, and evaluate our system requirements, • Test, debug, diagnose, and correct errors in our tech stack according to our operational specifications, • Support the app across the whole lifecycle from idea through to production, • The role will see you working directly with external clients while collaborating across internal teams, including leadership, product, design, and engineering to deliver impactful solutions., • We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world, • Join a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of household renewable energy use, • You’d be a part of a growing team of over 220 people with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations, • Flexible working hours & remote working - see "How You Work" for more info, • Competitive salary within your local market, • Share options in Amber Electric, • Employment and leave entitlements as per your local country, • An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support, • Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth, • Annual company conference in Melbourne, Australia. Between £45,000 and £70,000 base per annum. All roles at Amber include employee stock options. This is a full-time role to be based ideally from the UK/Germany/Netherlands. We do have a co-working space in London where we work flexibly between the office and home. You will be working predominantly remotely within a high-trust environment where transparency and accountability are foundational to our engineering culture. Amber's flexible approach allows you to shape your schedule around core collaboration hours, which are 7am - 12pm Tuesdays and Thursdays London time. This overlap enables meaningful collaboration with your Australian colleagues. Outside these core hours, we trust you to manage your time effectively. We focus on outcomes and impact rather than hours logged, but we do expect consistent communication and reliable delivery on commitments. Regular check-ins and transparent progress updates are part of how we maintain this balance of freedom and responsibility. We value work-life balance and sustainable pace—we don't want team members to overwork or burn out, nor do we expect you to be available 24/7. Instead, we promote clear boundaries and open dialogue about workload and capacity. Our headquarters is located in Melbourne, Australia, with a second co-working office/space in Sydney, Australia. Our European team operates from a central London hub that you will travel to during your onboarding, and approximately every 2 months thereafter for team collaboration. These in-person sessions help strengthen relationships and reinforce our collaborative culture. We also have AmberCon every year, this is a big team calendar event and we will fly you to Melbourne to be there with the rest of the team. We will always cover flights, accommodation and other travel costs as part of our travel policies. If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you! Even if you don’t meet 100% of the requirements listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We're open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status. Please include your resume and a cover letter and tell us: • One specific way you could use your technical skills to improve a household's energy use under the Amber model. Our process will generally be as follows: • A screening interview with our talent team, • A take-home technical challenge that should take no longer than four hours, • A follow up interview with two members of the engineering team, • A culture interview with two members of the engineering leadership team We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team. Only applicants with full working rights in the UK/Europe region will be considered for the role. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will also be notified of the outcome as soon as possible. No recruitment agencies please. We are already working with our preferred partners. Thank you! These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Description African businesses import $700 billion worth of goods and services per year but paying their suppliers abroad remains a massive challenge. Their options today are limited to traditional banks and the black market. Going through banks means poor customer service, high transaction costs and unfavorable exchange rates. Transactions that should take a few days end up taking weeks and cost merchants up to 9% in fees. The situation is equally dire for consumers who pay some of the highest P2P transfer fees in the world and are stuck with mobile money technology that is now decades old. We are building Kappa to fix that. Our cross-border payments platform is designed for ultra low-cost, near-instant money transfer at significantly higher transaction sizes than what’s currently possible. Our mission is to break down the barriers that have held back African businesses for decades. Kappa is looking for a Product Owner to join the team and help scale up our cross-border payments platform in Africa and beyond. Coming in early, you will take full ownership of the product across mobile and web and be end-responsible for delivering value to customers. Part of a globally distributed team spread across Africa, Europe and the Middle East, this role comes with significant autonomy, and offers a chance to help build a massive business that will have a positive impact on millions of lives. Our platform has processed over $1 billion across tens of thousands of transactions for African businesses, but we are just getting started. We have big ambitions as we scale up in existing markets and roll out in new ones, and we are looking for someone with matching ambition to drive that expansion. • You'll take end-to-end ownership of our web and mobile apps — from talking to customers and framing the problem, through the requirements and the design, to what the numbers say in production, • You’ll drive the product roadmap — Decide what we build next (and what we don't), working in close collaboration with sales, operations, and the leadership team, • You’ll work in a tight feedback loop with engineering — Specify the what and the why, leverage a world-class engineering team for the how, and stay close while it gets built, • You’ll spend real time with the people who use our product — Importers and exporters in Africa, from SMEs to multi-nationals, and our sales and operations teams on the ground who talk to them every day, • You’ll design flows for reliability, robustness and scale — You'll spend as much time on what happens when a transaction fails or gets stuck as on the happy path Requirements • 5+ years in product management. Experience with fintech products (payments, lending, banking) is a hard requirement. Plus points for cross-border payments and for building in emerging markets, • Payments fluency — Settlement, reconciliation, chargebacks, RFIs, treasury and liquidity. You treat KYC, AML and licensing as constraints that factor into the design from day one, not as blockers that show up late, • Writing that makes building unambiguous — Problem, customers, success criteria and constraints come before any solution. Two engineers (or coding agents) reading your spec independently would build the same thing, • Design judgment and the ability to act on it — You can say why one screen works better than another in terms of what the customer is looking to achieve. You’re able to produce the flows yourself using AI-driven tooling (e.g. Pen.dev, Claude Design) rather than relying on a designer, • Technical credibility — You can read an API schema or contract, follow an architecture discussion, and know when a requirement you've written is accidentally expensive or comes with hidden complexity. You have a sense for what’s hard vs easy to build., • Range and operating across layers of context — You can give the CEO the two lines that matter and the engineer the edge case that breaks the design, and go deeper when needed Benefits • Highly competitive salary and equity — top of market. We believe in hiring fewer but better people and paying them more., • Health, dental and vision insurance (for you and your dependents), • Work fully remotely from any Africa-friendly timezone (GMT-2h to GMT+3h). Regular travel to Africa to meet with customers, sales and operations on the ground will be required., • New MacBook Pro and up to $2,000 for home office equipment (headphones, chair, standing desk, etc.), • Parental leave / family-friendly culture, • Generous paid time off
