Description UK Job Description Job LocationLondon - in office minimum 4 days a week Working closely with the Directors and other Managers in Legal Operations, as well as others across functions like Business Development and Finance, the Manager is responsible for helping to support the management and operations of the Energy & Natural Resources Industry Group (“ENR”). This position supports the industry group and the development and execution of operational support to raise the Firm’s profitability, value and efficiency.The position requires a wide-ranging combination of skills and acumen, financial literacy, legal data analytics, critical thinking, good judgment, and general process management The Firm Reed Smith is a global law firm with more than 1,700 lawyers in 30 offices throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States. Responsibilities • Prepare ad hoc, monthly and quarterly reports for the assigned industry group and group leadership including, but not limited to PG metrics, utilization, Relative Profitability (RP) and realization reports, financial reviews, and Practice/Industry Group financial summaries., • Provide operational and some administrative support to the assigned industry group., • Act as a resource for attorneys in the assigned groups and liaise with other Firmwide departments, including Accounting, Client Value, BD, Human Resources, and IT., • Assist in the approval process of new matters for assigned Practice/Industry Groups., • Assist with the annual budgeting process, including projecting and allocating expenses and margin and reviewing monthly cost center reports for proper budget allocation., • Work with Accounting Department and Client Value to prepare rate sensitivity and profitability analysis for on-going matters., • Work with the Accounting Department to perform a variety of financial duties including, monitoring A/R and UBT, coordinating billing and collection efforts, analyzing write-offs, monitoring expenses, etc., • Work with the Client Value team to develop and apply strategy and metrics for pricing engagements., • Utilize data warehouse and other databases and search technologies to analyze data and develop expertise, experience and other knowledge systems., • Develop and implement actions to improve billing realization and relative profitability for assigned PGs., • Participate in RFPs for panel renewals and appointments to review proposed billing rates and/or alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) for the purpose of improving profitability of renewals and maximizing profitability in new appointments., • Analyze proposed write offs and write downs for potential RP impact on individual matters., • Work with CRLs, individual partners, Client Value, Revenue Coordinators and Matter Management Analysts to improve matter and client Relative Profitability, • Help educate PG attorneys about financial metrics, budgeting, RP and goals for individual attorneys, client relationships and the group regarding strategies for improving performance., • Provide support to the Legal Operations Directors and other Managers as needed, • Perform miscellaneous other duties as assigned by leadership. Key Skills, Attributes and Experience • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related discipline required., • A minimum of 3 years, and preferably 5 years, of relevant business administration in a similar capacity required. Experience in a law firm or other professional services firm preferred., • Strong financial planning and analytical expertise., • Extensive knowledge of PCs and the Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data warehouse and other databases., • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential., • Ability to maintain a client-service focus and mindset., • Ability to build relationships at all levels., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills., • Excellent writing, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills., • Ability to resolve issues quickly, effectively, and diplomatically and to make appropriate recommendations., • Good decision maker and proven ability to manage time and resources in order to meet deadlines., • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage projects, respond to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently and handle multiple competing priorities., • Ability to bring projects to successful completion while navigating the related political and cultural environment., • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources both internally and externally., • Ability to welcome change and embrace the challenges and opportunities therein At Reed Smith, we welcome direct applications either in response to one of our advertised vacancies or on a speculative basis.
