Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) Location: Canning Town, east London Salary: £44,101 – £49,447 (depending on experience) Contract: Maternity Cover (Term-time plus 2 weeks) Reporting to: Therapy Lead The Role Our client is seeking a passionate and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join their therapeutic education team on a maternity cover basis. The successful candidate will deliver specialist speech and language assessments and interventions to children and young people with complex needs, including neurodiversity, trauma, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges. This role is based within a nurturing primary setting, alongside opportunities to support pupils within community environments (such as at home or in local settings), helping them to develop communication skills, confidence, and independence. The Speech and Language Therapist will work collaboratively with educators, therapeutic practitioners, families, and multi-disciplinary teams to support each young person’s individual development and engagement in learning. Key Responsibilities The Speech and Language Therapist will: • Deliver specialist speech and language assessments, interventions, and reports, • Support pupils with complex communication needs to access and engage in learning, • Develop personalised strategies, including communication passports, • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and therapeutic teams, • Provide training, advice, and consultation to staff to embed communication strategies, • Contribute to multi-disciplinary assessments, planning, and risk management, • Engage pupils through creative, therapeutic, and meaningful activities, • Monitor progress and evaluate outcomes using appropriate measures, • Maintain accurate, GDPR-compliant records and reports, • Liaise effectively with parents/carers, external professionals, and agencies Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be a skilled and compassionate therapist committed to supporting children and young people with complex needs. Essential requirements: • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification, • Registered with the HCPC, • Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience, • Substantial experience working with children and young people with complex needs, including SEMH and/or autism, • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working Key skills and attributes: • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently, • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, • A creative and flexible approach to therapy delivery, • Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills, • Confidence working in complex and high-risk environments About the Organisation Our client is an independent provider of specialist therapeutic education based in London.
