Job Title Maintenance Engineer – Night Shift Location Central Manchester, UK (On-site role) Employment Type Full-Time, Permanent Shift pattern: 6pm-6am, 4 days per week - may include weekend shifts. Salary & Benefits Base salary: £45,000/£46,000 per annum Pension: Auto-enrolled with NEST Holiday Entitlement: 28 days annually (including bank holidays) Laptop: Provided Parking: Free onsite parking Other: Opportunity to work with a long-established local bakery known for its commitment to quality and community Role Summary We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support our manufacturing operations in Manchester. You’ll ensure production machinery is maintained, repaired, and running efficiently to minimise downtime across a busy baking and packaging operation. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on bakery production machinery including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines Rapidly respond to and resolve machinery breakdowns and faults Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective solutions Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and updates in compliance with food safety standards Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and operational efficiency Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety and hygiene protocols Collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams during handovers and day-to-day operations Skills & Experience Essential: Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment Strong fault-finding skills and hands-on ability in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance Understanding of health, safety and food hygiene standards Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively during shifts Desirable: Experience working with bakery or FMCG production equipment Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and pneumatic/hydraulic systems Experience with CMMS systems or digital maintenance reporting tools Personal Attributes Reliable, self-motivated and proactive approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Committed to maintaining a safe, clean and high-performing workplace Willingness to adapt and contribute to a fast-paced production environment
