Job description: About the Role As a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Engineering & Maintenance Manager is responsible for delivering world-class equipment availability, process capability, and plant infrastructure. This role combines strategic engineering leadership with hands-on maintenance and facilities management, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient manufacturing operations. It spans process engineering, facilities and site services, environmental health & safety systems, automation and digital manufacturing integration, and the deployment of continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ZF Production System (ZFPS) standards. What you can look forward to as Engineering and Maintenance Manager: • Leadership & Team Management: Lead, motivate, and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering and maintenance team across multiple shifts by setting clear objectives, managing performance, and building capabilities to meet current and future plant requirements, while embedding a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement in alignment with ZF’s operational excellence strategy, • Engineering Management: Lead process and test engineering for current production and new product introduction, drive automation initiatives including robot and AGV implementation, oversee lean manufacturing line design and optimisation, ensure accurate documentation (PFMEAs, Control Plans, Standard Work), manage CAPEX projects from justification to commissioning, and support zero-defect performance through rapid root cause problem-solving, • Maintenance & Facilities Management: Own and implement preventive, predictive, and autonomous maintenance systems to improve OEE, MTBF, and MTTR; manage site utilities, infrastructure, and statutory compliance; oversee facility upgrades and equipment installations; control maintenance budgets and inventory; and continuously improve the CMMS for data-driven decision-making, • Operational Excellence & ZFPS Deployment: Ensure full compliance with ZF Production System standards by embedding lean tools such as 5S, TPM, SMED, standardised work, and visual management; lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, scrap, and cost while improving throughput, yield, and labour efficiency; and leverage MES/Digital Manufacturing Platform data to drive targeted engineering and maintenance Actions, • Health, Safety, Environment & Compliance: Support the EHS coordinator to ensure compliance with ISO standards (14001, 18001, 45001, 50001) and statutory regulations; manage contractor control, permits to work, and site safety systems; promote energy reduction and carbon neutrality initiatives; and enforce a zero-accident culture through proactive hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety Audits, • Customer, Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement: Support customer audits and visits by presenting engineering and maintenance improvements; collaborate with suppliers and OEMs on equipment upgrades, modifications, and issue resolution; and partner with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless support for production operations Profile description: Your Profil as Engineering and Maintenance Manager: • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Manufacturing) or equivalent significant experience; HNC/HND minimum in relevant discipline; NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualification desirable., • Proven track record in automotive/manufacturing engineering and maintenance leadership., • Strong background in both mechanical and electrical disciplines., • Experience in CAPEX project delivery, TPM implementation, and lean manufacturing., • Knowledge of IATF16949, VDA 6.3, ISO14001, ISO14001, 18001, 45001, 50001 and customer-specific requirements (e.g., JLR, Ford and BMW)., • Demonstrates strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, strong leadership, and effective communication across all levels, • Excels in problem-solving, analysis, and decision-making, with outstanding organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities., • Possesses solid financial acumen for budget and ROI analysis, and is IT literate with experience in CMMS and manufacturing systems (MES/DMP)

About The Role The apprenticeship programme takes approximately three years to complete, and you’ll spend your first 12 weeks being inducted onto the programme at one of our Training Centres. You’ll earn while you learn and develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Power Networks Craftsperson, achieving a City & Guilds Level 2 Qualification in Electrical Engineering. Your Training will include periods of on-the-job training and development, learning from an experienced and qualified Overhead Linesperson. Following a formal assessment of your knowledge, skills and behaviours, you’ll become a qualified Overhead Linesperson yourself. Overhead Linespersons are overhead line engineers who work at height constructing, maintaining, testing, repairing and replacing overhead lines and equipment. You will represent National Grid and carry out work handed down by other areas of the business. Skills Join us, and we’ll see you participate in craft skills activities on the live LV network, on dead LV, HV and EHV circuits (live HV circuits if part of a Hot Glove team). You’ll help with network operations, connect generators and services and organise your own projects. You’ll also: • Construct and alter overhead lines, install pole mounted plant, run and terminate cables to plant and overhead lines, • Carry out routine inspection, maintenance and repairs of overhead equipment, • Record asset routes, details and positions, • Record plant details, • Locate and identify cables, test insulation, phasing and continuity on LV cables, • Test earthing, voltage, phasing and phase rotation, • Carry out switching operations on the LV network What You'll Need • Excellent communication skills; one moment, you could be speaking with customers, and the next, colleagues or internal stakeholders. Our minimum entry criteria require the following qualifications (held or predicted): • GCSE English at Grade A*-C/9-4 or Level 2 Functional/Key Skills English, • GCSE Mathematics at Grade A*-C/9-4 or Level 2 Functional/Key Skills Maths, • GCSE Science at Grade A*-C/9-4 or BTEC Science Level 2 equivalent, • Two other GCSE's A*-C/9-4 or Level 2 qualifications in any subject. You can also apply with a recognised Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering plus GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English. Please note: Electrical Installation qualifications are not accepted as an equivalent to Electrical Engineering qualifications and as a result you will be required to meet the minimum entry requirements detailed above. Whatever qualifications you hold, we will need to see evidence of them for you to be considered. Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment.
