GMP Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership a well-established and highly respected manufacturer operating within the engineering and foundry sector. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for an Electrical Project Engineer to join the Engineering team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a day shift role, working Monday to Friday between 05:00 – 17:00, with 40 basic hours (staggered start/finish times). Due to the nature of the operation, flexibility for overtime and weekend working is required. Starting salary of £37,500 (OT rate for Saturday is £22.03 per hour) The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the reliability and optimisation of all electrical plant and equipment within a demanding foundry environment, contributing directly to safety, productivity, and quality standards. Electrical Project Engineer – Main Responsibilities: • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe working environment, adhering to company Health & Safety policies at all times., • Maintain, fault find, repair, and improve electrical plant and ancillary equipment within a heavy engineering foundry environment., • Support and develop planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems to maximise plant reliability and reduce downtime., • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults on AC/DC systems, electrical control circuits, motors, switches, and 3-phase power supplies., • Read and interpret electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and PLC LADDER diagrams., • Maintain and test electrical installations, emergency lighting systems, and fire alarm systems., • Identify root causes of recurring faults and downtime, recommending and implementing corrective actions., • Supervise and control subcontractors on site, ensuring permits to work, method statements, and company procedures are followed., • Assist in improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across key production assets., • Ensure correct use of PPE, safe manual handling, housekeeping standards, and waste/spillage control., • Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses in line with company procedures., • Maintain electrical equipment in safe working condition to avoid shutdowns or production loss., • Monitor maintenance and purchasing costs and follow company purchasing procedures., • Identify, recommend, and maintain agreed levels of critical spare parts, liaising with key suppliers and stockists., • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, recommending projects to improve safety, cost, reliability, and output., • Support and communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and management to ensure efficient operation., • Participate in equipment inspections, process improvement initiatives, and foundry practice development., • Assist with project work aimed at optimising plant performance and manufacturing output. Electrical Project Engineer – Required Skills and Experience: • Time-served electrical apprenticeship with relevant qualifications., • City & Guilds 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (Level 3 Electrical Installations – BS 7671)., • Strong experience working with electrical control circuits, 3-phase systems, and industrial plant equipment., • PLC literate, with the ability to read and interpret LADDER diagrams., • Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills in a busy production or foundry environment (preferred)., • IPAF / MEWP certification (or willingness to obtain)., • Strong organisational skills, reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work to agreed deadlines., • Ability to work independently and use own initiative., • Excellent communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude., • High level of flexibility and commitment, including overtime and weekend work when required., • Strong awareness of Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance within heavy engineering.
