Temp Youth Worker – Summer Jobs Programme Location: Place of Work: West London, on-site and visiting Employers around the Uxbridge, Harrow and Hillingdon areas. Organisation: Light Foundations Contract: Temporary / Summer period only (40 days) Working Period: Over the summer period, July to August, Working Days: full-time for July, then three days the rest of August (TBC) About Us Light Foundations is an award-winning community-focused organisation committed to empowering young people and creating opportunities for positive change. The Summer Jobs Programme, funded through the Youth Endowment Fund and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, supports young people who face barriers to employment and are at risk of violence by providing meaningful work placements, training, and ongoing support. The Role We are seeking an experienced and qualified Youth Worker based in the London area to join our dynamic team for the upcoming Summer Jobs Programme. As a Summer Jobs Youth Worker, you will support young people aged 16–20 who are identified as being at risk of violence and experiencing multiple barriers to employment. You will play a vital role in helping participants successfully engage with their work placements and personal development opportunities throughout the six-week programme, working closely with employers. The successful candidate will provide guidance, mentoring, and practical support to ensure young people feel empowered, motivated, and equipped to succeed. Key Responsibilities • You will Support a Caseload of 10 - 15 young people from prep week and throughout their placement., • You will Conduct Initial 1:1 session with each participant, a case load of 10., • You will run Preparation Week (Prep Week), training on how to manage the work environment, expected behaviour, etc., • You will Conduct a Minimum of Three (3) Work Placement Check-ins and the First Point of Contacts for employer Supervisors., • Providing support and guidance: you will help participants navigate their work placements, offering advice and assistance as needed., • Ensuring training and development: you will ensure that participants receive the required training and development to enhance their employability skills., • Monitoring progress: you will track the progress of participants and provide feedback to help them improve., • Encouraging positive engagement: you will encourage participants to engage positively with their work placements and the wider community., • Building relationships: you will build positive relationships with participants and employers to foster a supportive environment., • Administrative Duties: you will manage all the administrative tasks, such as making phone calls to parents, employers, handling mailings, and other support tasks as needed., • You will organise an end-of-the-programme celebration event together with the rest of the team., • Identify safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate procedures. Your role as our Youth Worker is essential in helping young people gain valuable work experience and develop key skills for future employment, while also supporting their personal growth and well-being. About You The ideal candidate will have: • Previous experience working with young people aged 16–20, • A recognised Youth Work qualification or relevant equivalent experience, • Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are a must., • Strong understanding of safeguarding and supporting vulnerable young people, • Experience supporting individuals facing barriers to employment or social exclusion, • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, • The ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire young people, • A proactive, empathetic, and professional approach, • Knowledge of the London community sector and youth services is desirable Skills: Ability to engage with young people, employers, work independently and collaboratively within established policies and procedures.
