Restaurant Manager – Professional Job Description (2026 Standard) A Restaurant Manager oversees all daily operations of a dining establishment, ensuring smooth service, strong team performance, financial control, and exceptional guest experience. The role blends people management, customer service, food safety compliance, and operational leadership. Role Purpose To lead and manage the restaurant’s front‑of‑house and back‑of‑house operations, maintain high service and food quality standards, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and drive revenue, profitability, and team performance. Key Responsibilities Daily Operations Management • Oversee opening and closing procedures, ensuring all areas meet cleanliness and readiness standards., • Manage floor operations during service, coordinating with kitchen on pacing and table flow., • Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and maintain product availability., • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, HACCP, and allergen procedures., • Maintain safe working conditions and address equipment issues promptly. Staff Management & Leadership • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard staff across FOH and BOH., • Create staff schedules and manage labour costs in line with projected revenue., • Train, coach, and develop team members; set performance expectations and manage underperformance., • Build a positive, supportive team culture and lead by example. Customer Service & Guest Experience • Ensure consistent, high‑quality service standards., • Address customer complaints promptly and professionally, resolving root causes., • Monitor online reviews and guest feedback to improve satisfaction. Financial & Business Management • Monitor sales performance, analyse KPIs, and prepare operational reports., • Manage food and beverage costs, portion control, and waste reduction., • Implement strategies to improve sales and address adverse trends., • Negotiate with suppliers and maintain strong vendor relationships. Menu, Marketing & Brand Standards • Collaborate with kitchen leadership on menu development, specials, and seasonal items., • Support marketing and promotional activities to increase footfall and revenue., • Uphold company policies, brand standards, and operational consistency. Skills & Qualifications • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills., • Proven experience in hospitality or food‑service management., • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities., • Knowledge of food safety regulations and health & safety compliance., • Financial literacy: budgeting, cost control, KPI analysis., • Ability to work under pressure and manage fast‑paced service environments.
