Finance & Operations Director (Part Time 2-3 days a week flexible) Overview This role partners closely with the MD, Board, and Regional Managers to shape and execute the strategic direction of the business. It combines high-level financial leadership with operational oversight, systems management, and team development. The successful candidate will be a commercially astute leader with a hands-on approach and a strong sense of pragmatism. You will be an integral part of the business, not just looking in from the outside and a key sounding board for strategic decision making. The right person will have the opportunity to be part of our share incentive scheme. You'll be an experienced Finance Director and be either CIMA or ICAEW level. Key Responsibilities Strategic Finance & Leadership • Partner with the MD, Board and Regional Managers to shape and execute business strategy., • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and long-term modelling., • Provide commercial insight and challenge to support growth, margin optimisation, and profitability., • Support decision-making on investments, pricing, commissions and operational improvements. Financial Analysis, Reporting & Controls • Own the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial board packs and KPIs., • Ad hoc analysis and reporting on business performance, • Ensure accurate, timely statutory reporting and compliance., • Lead annual accounts process and manage relationship with external accountants., • Oversee tax, VAT, and payroll compliance including commissions., • Cashflow & Working Capital, • Manage funding facilities and banking arrangements, • Cashflow forecasting and management, credit control and oversight of cash collection. Systems & Processes • Ownership of financial and operational systems, seeking value, efficiency and compliance., • Implement and monitor robust financial controls and risk management frameworks., • Clients, • Ensure compliance with client specific requirements and oversight of client audits, • Provide excellent operational service to clients and contractors, • Support client tender responses Operations & Compliance • Monitor relevant legislation developments and ensure systems and controls are developed to ensure compliance, • Oversight of compliance including data protection, IR35, AWR etc Team Leadership • Lead and develop the finance & administration team., • Oversight of work volumes alongside team capacity and skills., • Instill a high-performance, collaborative culture across the function and with the wider business. Activity Cadence Annual • Budget preparation, • Year end accounts, • Annual bonuses and commission schemes for senior managers, • Oversight of CID facility including annual review / audit / negotiation, • Share option scheme annual return, • Company insurances, • Office leases, • Dividends Quarterly • Recommendation of quarterly targets, • Maintain deals board spread sheet rolling over quarterly & setting up progress vs targets, • Analysis of current profitability ratios, • Senior manager commissions Monthly • Oversight of cash flow, cash collection and draw downs, • Oversight of reconciliations ; ensuring integrity of billing & CRM, • Manager financial reviews & managers meeting, • Board meetings & finance report preparation, • Oversight of monthly accounts preparation, reconciliations, journals etc Ad Hoc • Contract reviews - mostly client own contracts, • Share option scheme - company valuations, inclusion of new members, removal of leavers, share issuances, • Commission analysis, • Commission - build calculators & consultant sheets, create master documents setting out the comms schemes, • Ad hoc analysis - eg time to profit for new starters; commission reviews, • Compliance oversight (including DP, IR35, AWR), • Oversight of engagement with & review of umbrella companies, • Build / maintenance of business spreadsheets - budget, management acs, commissions, deals board, • Tax management / oversight (corporation, PSA, S455), • Balance sheet oversight, accruals & prepayments, fixed assets, • Liaison with external legal advisor re contracts as required, • Oversight of/support with client audits, • Oversight / set up / reconciliation / troubleshooting of various systems, • Review credit checks which don't meet specified thresholds for new clients
