The Lappalainen & Sanjana Labs at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) are looking for a motivated individual to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate within a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, computational biologists, bioengineers, and human geneticists. The successful candidate will be jointly mentored by Drs. Tuuli Lappalainen and Neville Sanjana at the intersection of statistical genetics and functional genomics analyses and tech development and have the opportunity to also be affiliated with New York University. About the labs The Sanjana lab works at the intersection of genomics and bioengineering. We are curious about many things and are passionate about what we do. We primarily develop new technologies for hacking and understanding biological systems. We try to learn from nature and to re-purpose what we learn to gain deeper insights into how genomes and neural systems function. In the lab, we modify genomes, perform high-throughput screens, differentiate human neurons from stem cells, watch synapses rewire, find vulnerabilities in cancer cells and have a lot of fun in the process. We aim to have a tangible impact on improving human health by creating new biological tools and fundamental biological discovery. The Lappalainen lab studies functional genetic variation in the human populations by analyzing how genetic variants affect molecular and cellular traits, and how these cellular changes contribute to genetic risk for both common and rare diseases and traits. We analyze these questions both by computational analysis of large genomic, transcriptomic and multi-omic data sets, and by experimental approaches. Our lab includes experts across the field of systems genetics, from statistical genetics and genomics to molecular genomics. About the position We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist eager to understand the impact of human genetic variation on gene expression and phenotypes at the cellular, tissue and physiological levels. This position will be at the intersection of computational and wet-lab work, with co-mentorship by both PIs and membership in both labs. The projects for the postdoctoral scientist combines cutting-edge human genetics and genome technology development, with possible projects in CRISPR and single-cell multi-omics, and its integration with GWAS and eQTL data, including novel data from projects such as Developmental GTEx. Recently, the Sanjana and Lappalainen labs developed STING-seq (Systematic Targeted Inhibition of Noncoding GWAS loci with sequencing): ___. We seek to extend STING-seq to new cell types (including primary cells) and develop next-generation genome editing approaches to answer fundamental questions in human genetics, GWAS and disease biology. In addition, we envision that the postdoctoral scientist will play a major role in developing new projects in a supportive team science environment. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent and team-oriented Associate Scientist I to work in our high throughput production lab's Quality Control (QC) Team responsible for initial sample handling. Main responsibilities include, nucleic acid extractions, initial sample QC, and genotyping on the Illumina Infinium platform. This position reports to the QC Supervisor. The Satija lab at the New York Genome Center is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated senior computational biologist. The New York Genome Center is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our rapidly expanding CLIA certified Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory. Clinical Genomic Scientist (CGS) will report to the Laboratory Directors and will be responsible for clinical analysis and interpretation of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data. Responsibilities include but are not limited to variant curation and interpretation following the most current ACMG and ClinGen guidelines, genotype-phenotype correlation, variant database maintenance and mining, assistance with drafting clinical reports, and assisting Lab Directors with other day-to-day tasks. Clinical Genomic Scientists will work as a part of a team of highly experienced molecular diagnostic laboratory and informatics staff to produce clinical reports from WGS data. These positions are anticipated to be remote or hybrid remote / onsite. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Identify, annotate and investigate the clinical significance of variants found in NGS-based clinical tests; * Prepare variant assessment summary, classify variants as per ACMG criteria, maintain accurate and detailed records of variant classification; * Identify and prioritize variants of interest using information from clinical notes; * Assist with literature review for variants of clinical interest; * Review results of Sanger sequencing qPCR, chromosomal microarray, or other assays used for confirmation of NGS findings and prepare variant level summary for clinical reporting; * Prepare presentations for clinical case reviews and present evidence for multi-disciplinary review meetings; * Participate in new assay validations and translational clinical activities as assigned. Position Requirements: * Masters or PhD in molecular biology, human genetics, biochemistry, or a related field is required. * Experience in searching and extracting information from commonly used genomics databases such as ClinVar, gnomAD, HPO, NCBI etc; * Strong knowledge of Molecular Biology and Mendelian genetic diseases; * Excellent general laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to train others in laboratory methods; * Strong communication skills to work as a member of a collaborative team * Thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, start-up like environment; * Self-motivated and capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.
