Job Summary The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations while leading the evaluation, auditing, and optimization of financial workflows and processes. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accounting procedures are aligned with construction operations, job cost controls, payroll practices, and project management functions. In addition to managing core accounting functions, this position will audit current processes, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and develop clear, practical, and scalable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support operational excellence across the organization. The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting expertise, process improvement experience, and the ability to translate complex workflows into structured, documented procedures. Key Responsibilities Include: (But not limited to the following) Accounting Operations Management • Oversee general ledger, month-end and year-end close processes, • Ensure accurate job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition, • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and cash management, • Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, • Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction accounting best practices, • Conduct comprehensive reviews of accounting workflows and internal controls, • Evaluate alignment between accounting, project management, field operations, payroll, and procurement, • Identify process bottlenecks, control gaps, redundancies, and inefficiencies, • Analyze system utilization (ERP, job costing, timekeeping, purchasing systems) for optimization opportunities, • Develop clear, concise, and scalable Standard Operating Procedures for all core accounting functions, • Standardize workflows for:, • Job cost tracking, • Change order billing, • Progress billing, • AP/AR processing, • Payroll allocations, • Equipment and materials tracking, • Ensure SOPs are practical, user-friendly, and aligned with operational realities, • Partner with department leaders to ensure procedures support field and project teams, • Serve as a liaison between Accounting and Operations, • Partner with Project Managers to improve financial visibility and cost control, • Support leadership with reporting that reflects operational performance, • Supervise and mentor accounting team members, • Establish performance expectations and accountability standards Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred., • 5–10 years of finance/accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role., • Construction or subcontractor experience (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC) for multi-family projects highly preferred., • Strong knowledge of GAAP, job cost accounting, WIP, and construction financial reporting., • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills., • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management abilities., • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment., • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and accounting systems.
