Job Description This is an exciting opportunity for you to become part of an innovative research team in the Department of Pediatrics of the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, where you can participate in the development novel treatments of infections in newborns that may improve survival and protect vulnerable neonatal organs from infection-related injury. Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with microbiology laboratory assays. Experience in operating standard laboratory equipment and carrying out test procedures. Experience in data collection and interpretation. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with immunological assays and related molecular biology techniques. Experience with nucleic acid isolation and amplification methods. Experience with experimental nephrology. Brief Description of Duties: The Research Support Specialist will assist the research project of the Principal Investigator in the Department of Pediatrics in accordance with the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. Within defined test or analytical protocols, the incumbent will operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. Duties: -Conduct experiments; provide technical laboratory support, and/or animal handling to assist with experiments conducted -Perform literature search; staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor and/or PI -Collect data, record observations measurements and prepare reports for review of supervisor and or PI. -Other duties or projects as assigned.
