Job Description Anti-Violence Services Advocate In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) Albany, NY | Full-Time | On-Site Reports to: Director of Anti-Violence Services About In Our Own Voices, Inc. In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering LGBTQ+ people of color. Through advocacy, direct services, and leadership development, we work to ensure our communities live with safety, dignity, and equity. Our Anti-Violence Services (AVS) program provides critical, survivor-centered support to LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking while advancing systems change and cultural responsiveness. Position Summary The Anti-Violence Services Advocate is a frontline, survivor-centered role focused on providing trauma-informed crisis response, advocacy, and resource navigation to LGBTQ+ survivors, particularly people of color. This position combines direct service, systems advocacy, and community engagement to support survivors’ safety, healing, and long-term stability. Key Responsibilities Crisis Response & Direct Support • Respond to hotline calls, walk-ins, and emergency requests with compassion and urgency, • Provide safety planning, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed emotional support, • Assist survivors with access to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and long-term housing options, • Connect clients to culturally competent legal, medical, mental health, and financial resources, • Support survivors in setting and achieving short- and long-term goals, • Maintain accurate, confidential case records and referral documentation, • Enter client data in compliance with grant and funder requirements, • Facilitate survivor support groups, healing circles, and community workshops, • Provide LGBTQ+ cultural competency training to mainstream service providers, • Work collaboratively with IOOV’s interdisciplinary team to provide wraparound services Required • 1–2 years of experience in advocacy, crisis response, or case management, • Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, • Knowledge of housing systems, safety planning, and community resources, • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills, • Bilingual (Spanish/English), • Experience facilitating support groups or workshops At IOOV, you’re not just filling a role—you’re joining a movement.
