Job Description Position Details • Compensation: Starting at $20.00 per hour, with higher compensation available based on directly relevant silicone coating experience, • Schedule: First shift, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, • Department: GAL Applied Laminates, • Location: 101 Building Position Summary The Griff Network is seeking an experienced, dependable, safety-focused, and mechanically inclined UV Coater Operator to join our GAL Applied Laminates division. Direct, hands-on experience applying silicone coatings on continuous web processing equipment is required for this position. Candidates without previous silicone coating experience will not be considered. The UV Coater Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, adjusting, cleaning, and completing changeovers on a continuous web UV cationic coating line used to manufacture silicone-coated paper, film, release liners, and other flexible materials. The operator will prepare substrates and silicone coating materials, thread the production line, establish operating conditions, monitor coating application and curing performance, complete roll changes, make process adjustments, troubleshoot routine equipment concerns, and maintain accurate production and quality records. Candidates must have previous experience applying silicone coatings to paper, film, release liners, or other continuous web materials. Experience with UV cationic silicone coatings and ultraviolet curing equipment is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities • Set up, operate, monitor, and adjust continuous web silicone coating equipment to meet production schedules, product specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements., • Prepare paper, film, release liner, silicone coating materials, cores, rolls, and related production supplies for each job., • Thread continuous web materials through the coating and curing line according to established equipment and safety procedures., • Establish and monitor machine settings, including coating application, coating weight, line speed, web tension, temperature, cooling, and curing conditions., • Monitor UV lamp output, exposure levels, curing intensity, shielding, cooling systems, and safety interlocks when operating ultraviolet curing equipment., • Complete equipment setups, product changeovers, roll changes, cleaning procedures, and production adjustments., • Inspect coated materials throughout production to verify coating consistency, cure quality, release performance, appearance, and compliance with product specifications., • Identify and respond to coating defects, incomplete curing, web tension concerns, wrinkles, contamination, material issues, excessive waste, and equipment problems., • Adjust machine and process settings to maintain coating quality, improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and correct routine production concerns., • Troubleshoot routine coating, curing, mechanical, material, and process issues and promptly communicate more complex concerns to Maintenance and production leadership., • Work with Maintenance to support repairs, equipment adjustments, preventive maintenance, part replacement, and downtime reduction., • Read and follow work orders, coating formulas, product specifications, customer requirements, safety instructions, chemical handling requirements, and standard operating procedures., • Complete machine reports, production records, waste reports, quality checks, coating measurements, inventory transactions, and other required documentation accurately and on time., • Safely operate hand tools, measuring devices, pallet jacks, forklifts, hoists, and other approved material-handling equipment., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following housekeeping, 5S, personal protective equipment, UV safety, and chemical-handling requirements., • Communicate production issues, quality concerns, equipment needs, downtime, material concerns, and open items to the GAL Production Manager. Qualifications: • Direct, hands-on experience operating silicone coating equipment in a continuous web manufacturing environment is required., • Candidates without previous silicone coating experience will not be considered., • Experience applying silicone coatings to paper, film, release liners, or other continuous web materials., • Experience with silicone release coatings, silicone-coated release liners, UV cationic silicone, thermal silicone, solventless silicone, or another directly relevant silicone coating system., • Demonstrated experience completing coating machine setups, web threading, roll changes, product changeovers, cleaning, process adjustments, and routine troubleshooting., • Strong knowledge of continuous web processing, including coating application, web tension, coating weight, line speed, curing conditions, and process monitoring., • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to recognize equipment, coating, material, curing, quality, and process concerns., • Ability to make machine and process adjustments to maintain product quality, production efficiency, and safe operating conditions., • Ability to read and follow work orders, coating formulas, product specifications, safety instructions, chemical-handling requirements, and standard operating procedures., • Basic math, reading, measurement, computer, communication, data-entry, and production documentation skills., • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify coating defects, curing concerns, web issues, contamination, material defects, and excessive waste., • Dependable attendance, accountability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment., • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required., • Experience using forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, hand tools, and measuring devices. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate controls and handle tools and materials, reach, bend, stoop, climb, and communicate effectively with team members. The employee must be able to load and unload materials, position rolls and cores, assist with machine setup and changeovers, and work safely around moving production and UV curing equipment. The position requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and push, pull, or move materials weighing up to 100 pounds, with or without assistance. The employee must be able to work for extended periods in a fast paced manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, ultraviolet curing equipment, production chemicals, and moving machinery. The employee must follow all equipment safety procedures, UV shielding and interlock requirements, chemical handling procedures, and required personal protective equipment standards.
