THE OPPORTUNITY Launched in 1993, the award-winning Midtown Community Justice Center is one of the country’s first problem-solving courts. It provides alternatives to fines and jail as a response to low-level crime. Seeking to reduce crime and incarceration and increase public trust in justice, the Midtown Community Justice Center works with neighborhood stakeholders to improve Midtown Manhattan, and to serve the vibrant Midtown community, specifically those in need of services. The court responds creatively to low-level offending, seeking sentences that are restorative to the victim, defendant, and community. Further, the Midtown staff engage in ongoing community engagement events to promote community wellness and to help connect people in need to voluntary services. Midtown Community Justice is seeking a Bilingual Case Manager for the Intake team. Reporting to the Coordinator of Court Operations, the Case Manager will be responsible for coordinating new referrals, conducting intakes and screenings, reengaging former and existing participants to complete mandated services, orienting new participants to the Midtown Community Justice Center, and scheduling participants for services. The Case Manager will also be responsible for providing one-on-one case management support to participants in need of services. Once a participant is enrolled in programming, the Case Manager will provide regular written updates and compliance reports to the court, including to the judge, clerks, defense attorneys, and prosecutors. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court and community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI seeks Case Managers for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, Case Managers are the front line of service delivery and key to ensuring that the program meets its mandate. Specifically, Case Managers will supervise SRP participants according to their assigned tier and level; work with participants to identify and address barriers to compliance and court attendance; conduct outreach to participants, court stakeholders, community-based service providers, and collateral contacts; connect participants to appropriate services in the community to support their stabilization, and ensure accurate and timely court reporting on participants’ compliance with program requirements. Scope of Position: The Forensic Clinical Supervisor plays a key role in assisting the Program Director with the supervision of clinical staff and the planning of client services and interventions at a building with 48 studio apartments in the Bronx. Working closely with the Director, the Supervisor is responsible for fostering an environment that recognizes the impact of trauma on behavior, while guiding staff to implement effective crisis prevention, intervention, and verbal de-escalation techniques. The Department is comprised of 70+ healthcare professionals who are responsible for providing re-entry services to individuals detained in the NYC jail system. The Social Work Department supports patients’ rights and criminal-legal advocacy efforts in collaboration with patients’ criminal defense attorneys, Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) programs, and other post-release supervision providers. Additionally, our Social Workers coordinate closely with the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the NYC Department of Health & Mental Health (DOHMH) to provide robust services to our most vulnerable patients. This position reports to the Associate Director of Social Work Reentry and is responsible for collaborating with the Mental Health Service on assessing patients’ appropriate level of care post-release. Summary of position The Senior Psychiatrist is the psychiatric leader of the facility, clinical area, or program and works in close collaboration with the Mental Health Unit Chief, Clinical Supervisors, and Supervising Psychiatrists (if applicable) to ensure that safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions are provided for the individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system. North Infirmary Command (NIC), West Facility (WF), and the Contagious Disease Unit (CDU) are the jail facilities that house a significant number of incarcerated individuals with advanced age, complex medical problems, disabilities, and/or enhanced nursing needs. The Senior CL Psychiatrist working in this facility will lead the team in diagnostic review, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary case conferencing with medical, nursing, and social work for individuals housed in this facility with comorbid mental illness, including direct patient care as well as supervision of other psychiatric providers. The Senior CL Psychiatrist will also consult on the care of medically complex patients in other jail facilities. Experience working in correctional settings is not required, however the ability to work closely and effectively with multiple other disciplines, including security staff, is critical. Responsibilities Include: • Diagnostic review, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary case conferencing with medical, nursing, and social work for elderly and medically complex patients with comorbid mental illness., • Directly treat and oversee the psychiatric care of additional patients housed in NIC/WF/CDU, • Direct patients to the appropriate level of mental health care, within the facility or in the hospital as needed., • Close communication with psychiatric and medical providers at Bellevue Hospital to ensure continuity of care as patients transition between the two facilities., • Ensure the highest possible quality of mental health care both in the facility and in collaboration with the other jail facilities in the system. This includes active participation in quality improvement, staff and patient safety initiatives, treatment supervision, and personnel mentorship and management., • In coordination with the facility-specific Mental Health Unit Chief and/or Senior Clinical Supervisor, design, implementation, ongoing review, and monitoring of relevant clinical facility-specific procedures, policies and operating manuals, • Direct clinical individual and group supervision of the relevant psychiatric prescribing staff, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychiatric physician assistants. Position Summary The Center is hiring a Program Associate to join a team dedicated to helping middle and working-class homeowners throughout the state with a broad range of issues, including foreclosure prevention, scam prevention, coastal recovery and resiliency, and more. Job Description Overview Employed by PAGNY for The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) is responsible for the delivery of medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Summary of Position This is an hourly position reporting to the Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics (FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services. The Bronx, Brooklyn/Staten Island, Manhattan, and Queens FPECCs are responsible for conducting fitness to proceed evaluations under NYS Criminal Procedure Law Article 730 and pre-sentencing evaluations under NYS Criminal Procedure Law 390 for adult criminal defendants in the NYC criminal justice system. Job Description Overview Employed by PAGNY for The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) is responsible for the delivery of medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. Midtown Community Justice Center is seeking a Resource Coordinator to serve as the primary courtroom liaison and to engage legal parties and participants on community justice alternatives. Reporting to the Court Operations Manager, the Resource Coordinator will be responsible for helping explain Midtown’s services to legal parties, coordinating new referrals, conducting intakes and screenings, reengaging former and existing participants to complete mandated services, orienting new participants to Midtown Community Justice Center, and scheduling participants for services.
