Job Summary and Qualifications Ultrasound Tech Perinatal GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Performs consistently accurate and high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations in specialty clinics serving high risk patients. Specific area of expertise is OB/GYN, specifically. Maintains a high standard of patient care. Participates in providing patient specific care as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction. SUPERVISOR: Practice Manager DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: • Applies fetal ultrasound principles in the evaluation of fetal anomalies. Applies gynecological ultrasound principles in the evaluation of patient. Adapts to various ultrasound machines while maintaining high standards of sonography., • Identifies fetal anomalies, such as CNS, maxillofacial, cardiothoracic, abdomen, abdomen wall, genitourinary, extremity placental, umbilical cord growth disturbance. Performs ultrasounds on maternal uterus, cervix and ovaries. Performs complicated twin and triplet scans in conjunction with in-office multiple gestation service. Identifies gynecological anomalies such as fibroids, thickened endometrium and polyps., • Makes preliminary, equivocal diagnosis of gynecological and fetal disorders in the organ systems mentioned in above., • Operates ultrasound machines with proficiency. Continues to expand knowledge of latest technology and adapt to future technology., • Maintains ultrasound logging records including past medical history, past surgical history, past obstetric history, and past genetic history., • Prepares patients for procedures including and not limited to Level I &II ultrasounds, amniocentesis, lung maturity amniocentesis, PUBS, amino reduction, external cephalic version, and GYN ultrasound., • Maintains professional relationship with other staff members, other obstetric offices and hospital personnel., • Exercises independent judgement when interpreting Biophysical Profiles designed to assess fetal well-being. Alerts physicians of potentially dangerous conditions. Diagnoses fetal weight disturbances based on fetal biometry. Diagnoses multiple fetal anomalies and reports and demonstrates them to physician., • Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: • Associates degree in Ultrasound, required, • Bachelor’s degree, preferred EXPERIENCE: • A minimum of one-year specialty Ultrasound experience required CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:, • ARDMS, required, • RDMS – OB/GYN, preferred, • BLS required, • Must be certified in diagnostic ultrasound in accordance to state regulations. ADDITIONAL CERTIFCATIONS MAY BE REQUIRED PER PRACTICE SPECIALTY AND REQUIREMENTS: • Fetal Nuchal Translucency through the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review (NTQR). If the NT was not obtained through the NTQR, employee has one (1) year from the date of hire to convert to the NTQR credentialing. If previously held certification lapses, employee has three months post expiration to renew license; during this time employee is only allowed to scan applicable exams with a certified NT or NB preceptor., • Fetal Echocardiography (FE) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) within two years of hire. Exam must be taken within two years of hire date. If results are not available at two-year mark due to ARDMS, results waiting period, employee is allowed to work until results become available. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of ultrasound diagnostic procedures in order to perform ultrasonic procedures as directed by a physician, • Positioning patient to obtain he desired results as specified by diagnosis, • Skill in problem solving, • Skill in organization, • Skill in using basic office equipment, including computer, telephone, photocopier, and fax machine, • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment, • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work effectively under stress., • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others., • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing., • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
