Job Description Job Title: Commercial HVAC Service Technician Job Description The Commercial HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential homes and multi-unit residential properties. This role focuses on commercial-level work, including rooftop units and industrial refrigeration, and requires the ability to work independently in the field, manage service calls from start to finish, and ensure all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local codes. Responsibilities • Install, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems, including rooftop units, commercial refrigeration equipment, and industrial walk-in coolers., • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and energy efficiency of HVAC and refrigeration systems., • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and gas-related issues using appropriate tools, test instruments, and troubleshooting techniques., • Plan and organize daily work, including assessing job requirements, preparing tools and materials, and coordinating tasks when working with a helper., • Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners and property representatives about service needs, repair options, and maintenance recommendations., • Maintain accurate and timely records of work performed, parts used, and customer interactions, and submit required paperwork weekly., • Ensure all work complies with safety standards, building codes, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental regulations., • Operate and care for a company service vehicle, including driving safely to and from job sites., • 4+ years of experience as a commercial HVAC service technician., • Proven ability to work independently on service calls and complete assignments with minimal supervision., • Strong troubleshooting skills for HVAC, electrical, mechanical, gas service, and refrigeration systems., • Experience with commercial HVAC service, including rooftop units and industrial walk-in coolers., • EPA Universal Certification., • OSHA 10 certification. Work Environment Technicians typically work Monday through Friday, with a standard shift of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and start times that may range from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. depending on project needs, with end times extending to 5:00 p.m. or later when required. The position requires significant overtime, often in the range of 10 to 20 hours per week, and participation in an on-call rotation, averaging 3–4 on-call days per month. Service technicians usually take a company service vehicle home or from the office and report directly to job sites, covering locations such as commercial office buildings, supermarkets, big-box retail stores, and other facilities with industrial equipment. They report to a service lead or service manager and may work independently or in teams of two, sometimes with a helper assigned for larger projects. Technicians are required to report to the office on Monday mornings to submit paperwork from the previous week. The work involves field-based tasks in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other operational areas, with regular exposure to active mechanical and electrical equipment and varying environmental conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Albany, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
