Job Description Job Title: Industrial Mechanic (Levels I–III) Job Description This position supports maintenance operations on gas compression and mechanical equipment in oilfield, gas plant, and industrial environments. You will perform maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on gas-fired internal combustion engines, compressors, steam turbines, pumps, and gearboxes while contributing to preventative and corrective maintenance programs. Level I Mechanics operate with a high degree of independence and mentor junior mechanics, while Level II and III Mechanics support maintenance tasks and assist with troubleshooting and repairs under supervision, all with a strong focus on safety, quality, and reliability. Responsibilities • Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on gas-fired internal combustion engines, compressors, steam turbines, pumps, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment., • Support preventative and corrective maintenance programs to ensure reliable operation of gas compression and mechanical systems., • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues on industrial equipment and systems., • Interpret and follow OEM manuals, specifications, blueprints, and technical documentation to perform accurate repairs and adjustments., • Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers and dial indicators to inspect, align, and verify tolerances on rotating and mechanical components., • Assist with installation, alignment, and commissioning of compressors, pumps, gearboxes, and related equipment as needed., • Document work performed in CMMS or similar maintenance systems, including work orders, parts used, and maintenance reports., • Work safely around heavy mechanical equipment and rotating machinery, adhering to all safety procedures and compliance standards., • Collaborate with other mechanics, technicians, and operations personnel to diagnose issues and optimize equipment performance., • For Level I Mechanics, lead by example, operate independently on complex tasks, and mentor less-experienced team members., • For Level II and III Mechanics, support tenured mechanics with troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, and reassembly activities under supervision., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Essential Skills • 2–3 years of industrial maintenance experience in environments such as power plants, heavy equipment maintenance, or oilfield mechanical work., • Hands-on experience with gas compressors, engines, turbines, pumps, and rotating equipment., • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems., • Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, specifications, and blueprints., • Experience using precision measurement tools, including micrometers and dial indicators., • Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices and troubleshooting methodologies., • Experience with CMMS systems for work orders, reporting, and documentation., • Strong mechanical aptitude with solid problem-solving and analytical skills., • Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team environment., • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, bending, lifting up to 60 lbs, and working in confined spaces. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior oil and gas, refinery, or industrial mechanical experience is preferred., • Experience in maintenance technician, compressor maintenance, heavy equipment repair, or industrial maintenance roles is beneficial., • Comfort working with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical drive systems such as gearboxes., • Experience supporting gas compression operations or compressor stations is an asset., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality in all maintenance activities., • Willingness to learn from tenured mechanics and participate in ongoing skill development. Work Environment This role is based in an industrial field environment that includes oilfields, gas plants, and compressor stations. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and involves regular exposure to heavy mechanical equipment and rotating machinery. The position is physically demanding and requires climbing, bending, lifting up to 60 pounds, and working in confined spaces. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.
