Job DescriptionDescription: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Food Scientist Intern to join our Research & Development team for the summer in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This internship provides hands-on exposure to full-scale manufacturing operations and laboratory settings, offering real-world application of food science, formulation, and product development principles. The intern will support the R&D team with sample preparation, experimentation, product evaluations, and scale-up activities while gaining valuable industry experience. • Prepare samples for product testing and evaluation, including scaling ingredients and mixing doughs, • Assist with formulation procedures for new and existing products, • Conduct alternate ingredient experiments and accurately record data/results, • Support scale-up operations from lab to production, • Participate in tasting, ideation, and product development sessions, • Assist in product evaluations and testing, • Assist with preparation and shipment of outgoing samples, • Support Sample Coordinator as needed, • Follow all food safety, GMP, and SOP requirements Requirements:, • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field, • Basic understanding of food science principles required, • Prior experience in food production, lab work, warehousing, or shipping is a plus, • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, • Ability to follow instructions and procedures carefully, • Comfortable working in lab, office, and manufacturing environments, • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 30 lbs, • Moderate computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Office, laboratory, production, and warehouse environments, • Standing/walking for extended periods may be required, • Products manufactured may contain peanuts, tree nuts, and other allergens

Job Description The R&D Formulation Scientist – develops and optimizes formulations for nutraceutical products across multiple dosage forms, including, oils, waters, soft gels, powders, and granulations. This role partners closely with Sales, Customers, Sourcing, and Purchasing to translate product requirements into robust, scalable formulations while ensuring material availability and cost efficiency. The scientist performs hands-on work in the product development laboratory, utilizes advanced analytical instrumentation, and troubleshoots technical issues to support high-quality, sustainable products that promote health and wellness. This position offers significant growth potential as the R&D function expands and provides opportunities to move into leadership and people management over time. Responsibilities • Partner closely with Sales and Customers to understand product requirements and technical needs and translate them into effective formulation strategies., • Develop and optimize formulations for oils, waters, soft gels, two-piece capsules, tablets, powders, and granulations within the nutraceutical and dietary supplement space., • Apply expertise in powder, liquid, and tablet formulations to create stable, manufacturable, and high-quality products., • Collaborate with Sourcing and Purchasing teams to ensure timely material availability, cost efficiency, and appropriate raw material selection., • Troubleshoot technical formulation issues, identify root causes, and implement effective, data-driven solutions., • Assist with analytical testing and quality assessments to ensure products meet specifications and regulatory and internal quality standards., • Perform hands-on experimental work in the Product Development laboratory, including batching, blending, encapsulation, and related lab-scale processes., • Utilize analytical instrumentation such as gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to support formulation development and analytical chemistry needs., • Support quality control activities by evaluating raw materials, intermediates, and finished products, including those involving fish oils and other nutraceutical ingredients., • Evaluate laboratory capabilities, identify opportunities for future R&D expansion, and recommend new technologies, methods, or equipment to enhance innovation., • Contribute to new product development projects from concept through commercialization, including experimental design, data analysis, and documentation., • Collaborate effectively with a predominantly Spanish-speaking laboratory team, using translation tools as needed to maintain clear communication and teamwork., • Maintain accurate records of experiments, methods, and results in accordance with internal procedures and good laboratory practices., • Work cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, and other internal stakeholders to ensure formulations are scalable and suitable for production., • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field., • 3+ years of R&D formulation experience, preferably in nutraceuticals or dietary supplements., • Proven expertise in formulation of powders, liquids, and tablets., • Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish, are a plus but not required., • Interest in purpose-driven work focused on high-quality, ethically sourced, and sustainable products. 401K, holiday, vacation and sick time offered to internal employees. Job DescriptionDescription: • Creates product recipes and assists in preparation, scaling, and baking., • Prepares samples for customers and assists in selection of samples and shipping to the customer., • Document’s formulas and formula changes on continuous basis to keep them updated and current., • Adds formulas and ingredients into company program on timely basis to provide nutritional information and cost for new formulations or changes in existing formulations., • Evaluates current and alternative food ingredients to reduce cost, improve product quality, or provide additional vendor approvals for purchasing to resource from., • Conducts sensory evaluation of new products or existing products for customer sample release, R&D product development, or quality assessment., • Manages R&D lab activities, technician, and plant personnel as needed when R&D Director is off-site or unavailable., • Orders lab supplies, ingredients and shipping materials for customer packages as needed., • Keeps R&D lab clean and organized and manages inventory of retain samples., • Train’s laboratory technicians as needed to perform R&D activities., • Participates in cross functional teams to ensure effective resolution of technical issues, support product development initiatives and provide updates as needed., • Runs plant tests independently and/or with technician and documents processes, conditions, and changes., • Supports quality systems with consumer complaint diagnosis and reply as needed., • Trouble Shoots production and lab tests problems to come up with solutions., • Develops and documents product specifications, includes photographs, measurements, and product detail for current and existing products., • Conducts shelf-life studies and documents results., • Prepares paperwork for 3rd party analysis of products and reports results., • Tracks sample requests and deadlines to ensure that timelines are met., • Participates in Sales and Marketing meetings for customer sample requirements and for new or existing product requests., • Works with ingredient vendors for formula work, new product innovation and productivity opportunities.Requirements:, • Ability to perform physical demands of both office and plant work., • Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 30 lbs., • Work involves sitting, walking and/or standing for extended periods of time., • Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree (Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or Applied Science)., • Experience in the Food Industry with Bakery experience preferred (2 or more years of production or R&D/QC laboratory experience)., • Basic to moderate knowledge of food regulations, nutrition labeling, ingredients, and ingredient functionality., • Ability to calculate figures, amounts, weights, and measures., • Moderate to advanced computer skills (word, excel, and database navigation)., • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills., • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail., • Excellent ability to communicate effectively, apply judgment and understand sense of urgency to support the sales, marketing, purchasing and production efforts., • Bi-Lingual, ability to speak Spanish a plus., • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision., • At times, the position interacts and comes into contact with a production, manufacturing, and warehouse environment, which presents the following:, • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high., • Use of protective hair, eye, and clothing coverings necessary when entering production area., • Products manufactured in the facility may contain peanuts, tree nuts, and other potential allergens.
