Job DescriptionDescription: URM Stores, Inc. is searching for a detail-driven, people-focused Payroll Accounting Analyst to lead our payroll operations across multiple states. As the most senior role in payroll, you’ll supervise two talented Payroll Administrators and serve as the go-to liaison between payroll and accounting. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, you’ll own the payroll-related general ledger accounts—performing timely and thorough reconciliations while safeguarding the integrity of our payroll data and processes. As the supervisor of the onsite payroll team, this position requires a 100% on-site presence, no remote work is permitted. What You’ll Own & Deliver • Lead with purpose – Supervise and mentor two Payroll Administrators who process multi-state, union/non-union, exempt/non-exempt, and weekly/bi-weekly payrolls through Paylocity., • Coach and inspire – Provide hands-on guidance, training, and professional development that builds skills, boosts morale, and delivers impeccable results., • Streamline for success – Identify gaps, strengthen internal controls, and implement process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance., • Own the numbers – Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and Union Health & Welfare payments for multiple CBAs monthly, including payroll journal entries and benefit tracking., • Be audit-ready – Partner with auditors to ensure smooth financial and union benefit audits—no scrambling, just confidence., • Partner with Accounting – Support budgeting for payroll taxes, vacation accruals, and labor, plus deliver variance analysis and reporting that tell the story behind the numbers., • Stay compliant – Monitor and apply all federal, state, and benefit-related regulations so there are zero surprises., • Be the go-to expert – Advise department heads and leaders on payroll, paid leave, and union contract provisions., • Keep SOPs sharp – Maintain, review, and refine payroll procedures for best practices and strong internal controls., • Master the details – Oversee payroll tax filings, garnishments, levies, and other required deductions with accuracy and care. Researches and advises payroll staff concerning the accounting treatment of complex transactions., • Your eye for detail is unmatched – Your accuracy and organizational skills keep every process running smoothly and error-free., • Deadline master – You handle busy days and competing priorities with ease, keeping projects on track and on time—always with a cool head and a can-do attitude., • Collaborate across teams – Work with internal stakeholders and vendors to keep payroll running seamlessly through every quarter and year-end close., • Expert understanding in best practices of general accounting rules and payroll tax laws for WA, OR, ID, and MT—you speak compliance fluently., • Strong business acumen showing you understand how payroll impacts the bigger financial picture and make data-driven decisions., • You are known for your rock-solid integrity. You protect confidentiality, deliver accurate work, and uphold high ethical standards., • Reliable, proactive, and solutions-oriented-- you see issues early and have them fixed fast., • You are a skilled communicator and natural leader; your guidance builds trust and strong teams., • You thrive in high-energy, fast-moving environments where multitasking is second nature., • Education that counts – A degree in Accounting, Finance, or other similarly related is required., • Proven payroll expertise – 2–4 years of hands-on experience with SaaS payroll platforms, ready to hit the ground running and deliver results from day one. Paylocity experience is a strong plus., • Leadership that inspires – 2–4 years in a supervisory role (bonus if it’s a team of three or more people). You have the emotional intelligence to mentor, motivate, and lead teams to success., • Professional certification – CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) preferred, or actively working toward one, with certification required within your first year.
