Job Description Summary Job Description: Shift Supervisor is accountable for the physical/emotional safety of the environment while on shift. Additionally, the individual is responsible for leading the staff/resident teams utilizing the Tuckman model of supervision along with the MYSI standards (Eyes on, Ears on, Heart on)/ therapeutic approach in the Department of Education setting. The individual is accountable for staff engaging youth in any and/all education components throughout the school day and during after-school in terms of homework, tutoring and after-school programming. Moreover, the Shift Supervisor must ensure that the behavior management specialist team is positioned optimally to support youth in each educational component. Furthermore, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for the overall safety and movement of the resident/staff team to and from school. This includes timely arrival to school daily, and monitoring speed of agency vehicle/driving route (if applicable). This position offers a full-time, 40 hour-per-week, in person work schedule and is based in Staten Island. From time to time, this position requires work outside of normally scheduled working hours. About St. John’s Founded in 1826 as a home for orphaned children, St. John’s has evolved into a nonprofit social services agency providing residential care to New York City youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. We offer holistic, trauma-informed support to young people up to age 21. Our main campus in Rockaway Park, Queens, houses a Residential Treatment Center, Close to Home Non-Secure Placement programs, administrative offices, clinical services, and an on-site NYC Department of Education school. We also operate a Non-Secure Detention residence in Richmond Hill and Limited Secure Placement programs in Brooklyn and Staten Island. St. John’s is dedicated to helping youth heal, grow, and build the skills they need to achieve their goals and return to family or a stable, supportive environment as engaged members of their communities. Principal Responsibilities • Demonstrates fidelity to the agency's service values and organizational imperatives., • Responsible for the full engagement of all residents in each educational component on a daily basis., • Ensures pat frisk are conducted twice daily to minimize the introduction of contraband into unit., • Ensure all tasks are completed prior to team’s departure, this includes but not limited to incident reports, daily log and log book, etc., • Must debrief the current/ incoming shift members each and every day without fail., • Responsible for the timely arrival of residents to and from school on a daily basis, including but not limited to driving routes/speed of vehicle (if applicable)., • Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning throughout the school day., • Divides youth into small clusters to be supported by all school youth counselors throughout the day during classtime. All staff are required to complete daily index cards on youth assigned M-Fri to be collected and submitted to the office manager/ designated POC for documentation., • Responsible for supporting residents in completion of all daily school/other assignments/ tasks and support residents in creating a daily routine of studying both during and after-school., • Responsible for strategic positioning and engaged supervision of staff and residents in each classroom, during school hours., • Maintain all relevant certifications including but not limited to a clean/valid driver’s license, SCM certification, etc., • Additionally, beyond the aforementioned statements, perform any and all tasks as assigned by program leadership. Required Qualifications and Experience • Associate’s degree in human services or related field and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience working with vulnerable youth and families preferred -OR- a high school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience working with vulnerable youth, • Valid driver’s license, • Individual must be well versed in the MYSI approach/standards, TCI/ SCM/Other training specific to program, • Experience managing behavior utilizing the MYSI or other therapeutic approach, strong knowledge of programming and program protocol., • Strong communication skills, • Mature, responsible and effective communicator with proven ability to manage both upward and downward, • Attention to detail, • High level of integrity and independent thinker and doer, • Assumes responsibility for staff and residents during shift, • Leads by example Travel Requirements This position offers a full-time, in person schedule and is based in Staten Island and does require travel to other locations when needed.
