Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/13/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights Start Date: April 13, 2026 Location: Newark, New Jersey Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants Schedule: 13-week assignment, every other weekend required, 1:4 patient ratio Highlights: • Advanced cardiac stepdown unit specializing in LVAD, heart/lung/kidney transplant, and complex cardiac patients, • Level II trauma center with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including rapid response teams and interpretation services, • Epic EMR system with comprehensive orientation and training modules, • 34-bed unit caring for adult and geriatric populations with diverse, high-acuity case mix, • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge cardiac technology including TAVR, cardiac drips, and ventricular assist devices, • Active New Jersey or Compact state RN license required at time of submission, • Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required, • Level II trauma center experience required; Level I and teaching hospital experience highly preferred, • LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) experience required – hard stop, • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required at submission, • Demonstrated competency in titration of insulin and cardiac drips, • Epic charting system experience required, • Heart failure, LVAD, and pulmonary hypertension patients requiring IV prostacyclin, • Heart, lung, and kidney transplant patient management, • Cardiac rhythm disorders, post-MI, pre/post cardiac catheterization and surgery, • TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) patients, • Tracheostomy/ventilated patients with multi-organ issues, • Neurologic disorders including stroke, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, lumbar drains, and spinal cord injuries, • Drug ingestion/overdose requiring frequent neurologic, pulmonary, or cardiac monitoring, • GI bleeding, acute liver failure, and patients requiring octreotide infusion, • Ventricular assist device (LVAD/RVAD) management, • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias with telemetry monitoring, • Titration of cardiac drips, vasoactive drips, and insulin protocols, • Arterial line management and interpretation of arterial blood gases, • Central line, PICC line, and port access/management, • Blood product administration and heparin protocols, • Care of ventilated patients, tracheostomy management, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula, • Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), • Pre/Post hemodialysis management and renal failure care, • Surgical drain, lumbar drain, and continuous bladder irrigation management, • Sheath and TR band removal post-cardiac procedures, • Wound care/wound vac and ostomy care, • Requested time off must be submitted with initial application; RTO requested after offer will not be accommodated, • Must be available to work 2 of 3 major holidays during assignment, • Willingness to float within skillset based on facility needs, • Completion of pre-start modules (approximately 18 hours non-billable, including 4 hours Epic training), • Labs must be completed within 48 hours of signing contract, • No open background or license issues This position offers the chance to practice at the highest level of progressive care nursing in a sophisticated cardiac and transplant stepdown environment.
