Job DescriptionJob Title: Welding Supervisor Job Description The Welding Supervisor oversees and manages daily welding operations in a metal manufacturing environment. This role leads a team of welders, ensuring production efficiency, maintaining high quality standards, and optimizing welding processes to meet production goals. The Welding Supervisor actively supports company values and policies while driving continuous improvement, safety, and team development on the production floor. Responsibilities • Lead and supervise a team of welders, including planning production and capacity for the department and prioritizing daily work assignments., • Prepare and conduct performance appraisals, manage staffing levels, and coordinate vacations, overtime, and leaves of absence., • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and training to team members to maximize quality, productivity, morale, and cooperation., • Observe welding work on the production floor, including inspecting welds, materials, and equipment, and monitoring gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure adherence to production standards., • Develop and implement creative solutions to welding-related issues, including conceiving and setting up fixtures, jigs, and other tools to improve efficiency., • Resolve operations and manufacturing problems in a timely manner to minimize costs and prevent production delays., • Ensure all required paperwork and documentation are completed accurately and on time., • Collaborate with other departments to ensure availability of resources, materials, and equipment needed to meet production schedules., • Attend daily production meetings with production leadership, department leaders, and quality representatives to review priorities and address issues., • Uphold and enforce quality control protocols to ensure products meet established quality standards., • Communicate regularly with the Production Manager regarding departmental issues, including personnel, machines, processes, and fabrication concerns., • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and waste reduction within welding operations., • Comprehend and adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures, and promote a safe work environment., • Address employee concerns and resolve issues through the appropriate grievance process when needed., • Recommend employee recognition, promotions, or disciplinary actions based on observed performance and adherence to policies., • Assist in the supervision of other departments when required to support overall production needs., • Perform additional duties as assigned by production leadership to support ongoing operational requirements.Essential Skills, • Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and legibly., • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising approximately 10–20 welders in a metal manufacturing environment., • Proficiency with MIG, TIG, and STICK welding processes, as well as robotic welding operations and grinding., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols accurately., • Deep understanding of various welding techniques, welding equipment, and their appropriate applications., • Working knowledge of different metals and sheet gauges, with the ability to identify various types of sheet metal., • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment., • Good computer literacy, including use of email and basic office software., • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization., • Demonstrated team-building and people skills, with the ability to motivate and develop employees., • Mathematical and mechanical aptitude to support accurate measurements, setups, and problem-solving., • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality, including the ability to identify and troubleshoot manufacturing defects., • Ability to promote and implement change and support a continuous improvement culture., • Good telephone and listening skills for internal communication and coordination.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred and considered an asset., • Experience creating and setting up welding fixtures and jigs for both manual and robotic welding., • Experience in fixture design to improve welding efficiency and consistency., • Demonstrated ability to manage workflow and efficiency across a welding department., • Experience working with sheet metal and custom product fabrication., • Proven ability to lead by example in upholding company policies, safety practices, and quality standards.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time, first-shift role, typically working from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM on the production floor in an industrial metal manufacturing environment. The Welding Supervisor spends most of the time on the shop floor overseeing welding operations, inspecting welds, and working with various welding processes such as MIG, TIG, STICK, and robotic welding, as well as grinding and sheet metal fabrication. The work involves custom product welding, with customer orders often produced in smaller batches. The environment includes standard industrial conditions such as machinery, welding equipment, and materials handling, and requires adherence to all safety policies and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
