Job Description Job Title: Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Duty Truck Technician) Location: On Site – Queens Village, NY Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, day shift, 8 to 10 hours per day Compensation: $30-$40/hourly – Based on experience and certifications About ATC ATC is a fast-paced transportation and logistics company specializing in freight coordination, dispatch, and local delivery across the Northeast. We run a mixed fleet of sprinter vans, box trucks, flatbeds, reefers, and semi-trucks across NY, NJ, PA, CT, and MA. As we grow our driver team and open our New Hyde Park terminal, we are bringing fleet maintenance in house and looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to keep every truck safe, road ready, and on the road earning. Position Overview The ATC Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the diagnostic work, preventive maintenance, and repairs that keep our entire fleet running. You will work on diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, brakes, tires, and structural components across Class 3 through Class 8 vehicles. Daily work happens out of our Queens Village shop, with travel to the New Hyde Park terminal as needed. You will report directly to the Director of Operations and partner closely with dispatch and the driver team. We are looking for a hands on, detail oriented technician who takes pride in fast, accurate work and a clean shop, and who can keep our trucks compliant and dispatched on time. Key Responsibilities Diagnostics and Repair • Perform diagnostics on diesel engines using computer based scan tools, fault code interpretation, and component testing, • Repair and maintain electrical and hydraulic systems including starters, alternators, batteries, lift gates, and hydraulic pumps, • Diagnose and repair brake systems including air brakes, drums, rotors, pads, and slack adjusters per FMCSA standards, • Inspect, repair, and replace tires using dual ended pressure gauges for inner and outer duals, tread and wear analysis, balancing, and full replacement, • Perform welding repairs (MIG and stick) on steel and aluminum frames, body panels, substructures, exhaust, and roof panels on cabs and trailers per OEM guidelines Maintenance, Compliance, and Safety • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance, fluid and coolant checks, oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication services on all fleet vehicles per OEM and DOT intervals, • Conduct DOT and pre-trip qualifying inspections so every truck meets compliance before dispatch, • Maintain accurate repair orders, parts logs, and service histories in our maintenance system, • Wear proper PPE (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection) and follow all OSHA and shop safety protocols at all times, • Communicate with dispatch and drivers on repair status, downtime estimates, and turn around times so the schedule keeps moving Qualifications • Minimum 3 years of verified diesel mechanic experience on medium and heavy duty trucks (Class 3 through Class 8), • ASE certification required, T-series (Medium/Heavy Truck) preferred, including any combination of T1 through T8 (engines, brakes, electrical, suspension, drive train), • Proficient with hand tools including wrenches, sockets, ratchets, torque wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, multimeters, cordless drills, and angle grinders, • Welding proficiency in MIG and stick processes on steel and aluminum, with proper joint angle technique (45 degree T-joints, 60 to 70 degree laps) and OEM grounding procedures, • Experience with computer based diagnostics and OEM software (Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel DDDL, Allison DOC, or equivalent), • Working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA standards for commercial vehicle maintenance, • High school diploma or GED required, vocational or technical school in diesel technology preferred, • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, • Must be seeking full-time, W-2 employment. We do not offer part-time schedules, cash pay, or 1099 arrangements, • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, work in cold or hot conditions, and handle the physical demands of shop and yard work Preferred but not required: ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck certification (T2 through T8) CDL-A or CDL-B license to support road testing trucks after major repairs Reefer unit experience (Thermo King, Carrier) Trailer repair experience including flatbeds, reefers, and dry vans Experience with fleet maintenance software and digital work order systems Company DescriptionAbout ATC ATC is a fast-paced transportation and logistics company specializing in freight coordination, dispatch, and local delivery across the Northeast.
