THE OPPORTUNITY AT HAND We’re looking for a Testing Technician that is passionate and empathetic people to join our team as Ophthalmic Techs. Our Techs are responsible for all the pre-exam elements of the patient visit. This includes gathering and documenting patient information and history and conducting routine and ancillary patient testing. You’ll play a vital role in the patients experience with OCLI and in helping our Dr’s to diagnose and treat eye disorders. OUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOU • Tests and measures eye function to assist Ophthalmologist to diagnose and treat eye disorders and disease, • Performs and records initial history; including present/chief complaint, past ocular history, family history, systemic illness, medications, allergies and drug reactions, • Tests and records patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception, • Measures intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test), excluding applanation, • Performs ancillary test such as lensometry, corneal topography, A scans, B scans, keratometry, fundus photography, slit lamp photography, specular misoscopy, and visual fields, (including central and peripheral vision); records results, • Transcribes physician's dictation into patient chart when applicable, • Knowledgeable in ocular pharmacology such as anesthetics, steroids, antibiotics, mydriatics and cycloplegics, epinephrine, miotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, • Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes, • Collects and processes specimens for appropriate laboratory testing, • Prepares and stocks exam rooms; assists with exam, • Triages emergency cases appropriately into physician’s schedule, maintains patient flow, • Prepares patient and procedure room; assists ophthalmologist with in office procedures, • Performs first level maintenance on ophthalmic equipment and notifies office manager of any equipment malfunctions, • Utilizes as appropriate, infection control techniques and universal precautions, • Performs other tests and measurements as requested by Ophthalmologist, • Maintains confidentiality and professional demeanor at all times WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED • You have one-year certificate from college or technical school; minimum two years experience as an ophthalmic assistant or equivalent combination of education and experience., • You are CPR Certified, • You’re an excellent communicator – both verbally and written, • You’re outgoing, you love the idea of interacting with patients everyday, • You’re comfortable providing white glove service and responding quickly to our patients needs, • You’re a dependable problem solver – you’re the one people call to keep cool in stressful situations, • You have a positive, can-do attitude and work well in collaborative environments, • You’re flexible – you roll with the punches and easily accept change, • You’re knowledgeable in ocular pharmacology such as anesthetics, steroids, antibiotics, mydriatics and cycloplegics, epinephrine, miotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories is a PLUS, but not a requirement, • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Position Summary: As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role as an assistant to our physicians. You will be cross trained to perform a range of administrative and clinical duties. These duties include preparing the patient to see the physician, preparing examination rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures. Job Duties & Essential Functions: Patient Interaction & Clinical Intake • Greet and communicate with patients and their families in a manner consistent with caring and respect., • Initiate patient evaluations by accurately documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent information., • Perform pre-exam testing, including visual acuity assessment (with pinhole and glare testing), confrontational visual fields, extraocular muscle testing, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, angle assessment, and dilation., • Conduct advanced diagnostic testing such as OCT, fundus photography, IOL Master, Pentacam, A-scan, B-scan, Wave Scan/Vario, keratometry, lensometry, and visual field testing., • Assist with in-office minor surgical procedures and laser treatments., • Complete prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician, ensuring proper documentation in the patient chart., • Track, document, and communicate laboratory results to physicians and patients promptly, ensuring accuracy and continuity of care., • Educate patients on the use of medications and provide pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the physician., • Maintain and manage inventory of ophthalmic supplies, pharmaceuticals, and instruments., • Inspect and assist with the maintenance of clinical examination equipment, report damage, coordinate repairs, and request replacements as necessary., • Assist with cleaning surgical instruments in preparation for sterilization., • Properly shut down and clean diagnostic testing equipment as needed., • Open and close exam rooms daily, including cleaning equipment, charging devices, and securing instruments., • Assist with opening and closing the clinic as needed., • Follow all safety protocols and clinic procedures., • Monitor and respond to work emails; utilize shared tools such as Google Drive to stay informed throughout the workday., • Participate in training and educational opportunities, including webinars and in-service sessions, to remain current with best practices., • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
