The Opportunity The Vice President of Human Services is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and financial sustainability of a broad portfolio of programs serving older adults, adults and youth. This individual will oversee a set of programs that presently includes five Older Adult Centers located in Manhattan and Brooklyn, an Older Adult Friendly Visitor Program, comprehensive after-school programming for children ages 3–16, a Girls Basketball League and clinics, and a Workforce Development Center supporting older adults and individuals with behavioral health needs. The VP of Human Services will provide direct supervision to program directors, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities. This role requires an experienced, visionary leader who excels at program innovation, cross-sector collaboration, and building high-performing teams to achieve measurable outcomes. Responsibilities Leadership and Strategy • Provide overall leadership, direction, and vision for older adult, youth service and workforce programs., • Lead strategic planning initiatives to strengthen program quality, relevance, and impact., • Identify opportunities for innovation and growth, including new partnerships, funding streams, and service models., • Ensure programs reflect best practices, regulatory compliance, and community needs., • Engage program directors in the development of fundraising goals and marketing & communication plans that are then implemented with the help of those departments., • Directly supervise program directors overseeing older adult services, youth programs, and workforce development initiatives., • Foster a collaborative, accountable leadership culture among direct reports., • Support directors in goal setting, program design, performance management, and professional development., • Partner with Finance and Development teams to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability across all programs., • Monitor budgets, contracts, and grant compliance for multiple funding sources., • Identify opportunities to maximize resources and improve operational efficiency., • Represent the organization in citywide coalitions, funder meetings, and community forums., • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, philanthropic partners, and community stakeholders. Education & Experience • Master’s degree in social work, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)., • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in human services, preferably in a settlement house, community center, or multi-service nonprofit organization., • Demonstrated success overseeing diverse program portfolios and managing senior-level staff., • Strong track record in financial oversight, budget management, and strategic planning., • Knowledge of best practices in youth development, older adult services, and workforce development., • Proven ability to be a creative problem-solver and systems thinker who is innovative, willing to experiment, pilot new ideas, and adapt based on outcomes, whether successful or not, with a commitment to continual program improvement., • Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills., • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in programs and organizational culture., • Working knowledge of online databases, Excel, Word, and other programs The expected salary range for this position is between $115,000 – $125,000 annually. This range reflects the anticipated compensation at the time of this posting and may be adjusted based on experience, education, and organizational needs.
