The primary disease focus includes patients with cardiac disease, and medical and surgical patients requiring telemetry monitoring. The age of the patients ranges between young adult (18 years) and geriatric (90+ years) with the majority of the patients between the ages of 55-75 years of age. Primarily, the patients have undergone cardiac or thoracic surgery. A subset of our population includes patients who present with a cardiac diagnosis or have undergone a diagnostic, interventional, or surgical procedure and requires telemetry monitoring post-procedure. Continuous pulse oximetry is available and provided to patients based on meeting specific monitoring criteria as outlined in the unit policy. Patients with known or suspected cardiac or thoracic disease that are considered stable may be admitted as well as other medical/surgical patients as bed availability permits.
