Job Description Our client, a leading national law firm and innovator in construction law, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their Finance Team, with a primary focus on financial reporting and general ledger management. This position is based in their New Jersey office. The firm offers a competitive compensation in the $80,000 - $90,000 range and strong benefits including: 401k, Life insurance, medical, dental, vision benefits, and FSA and HSA. We offer discounted excess life insurance, transit commuter program, and excess liability coverage. Hybrid remote after 90-days with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote. You will oversee the firm’s general ledger, support internal and external financial reporting, and assist with regulatory compliance. You will also support trust accounting activities and help oversee accounts payable operations, all while working closely with firm leadership and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities • Manage and maintain the firm’s general ledger, ensuring timely and accurate journal entries and reconciliations., • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including dashboards, summaries, and periodic reporting for management and stakeholders., • Process journal entries including payroll, accruals, and adjustments., • Perform bank reconciliations for firm and trust accounts., • Conduct GL account analysis, investigating variances and ensuring proper classification., • Assist with trust accounting operations, including processing and reconciling deposits, receipts, and disbursements., • Support accounts payable processes, including review and processing of firm expenses, AMEX charges, client costs, and vendor invoices., • Manage cash receipt deposits including wires, ACHs, and credit card transactions., • Support month-end and year-end closing activities., • Maintain organized and accurate financial documentation and audit trails., • Assist with client accounting system maintenance and ad hoc financial system tasks., • Participate in special projects, including data analysis and financial modeling., • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing, reporting, and payment status., • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline., • Prior experience in financial reporting and general ledger operations., • Strong financial analysis skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions., • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with a high standard of work quality., • Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUPs, and data validation., • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access, to generate reports and presentations., • Excellent multitasking and organizational skills—able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines., • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-finance audiences., • Energetic, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while delivering results in a team environment., • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services firm preferred.
