Job Description Make the Road States (MRstates) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, this in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella. From an operational spectrum it serves as the Finance and Human Resources Compliance Officers for the umbrella at large. Make the Road New Jersey (MRNJ) builds the power of immigrant and working class communities to achieve dignity and respect through community organizing, the provision of high quality legal and support services, transformative education and policy innovation. MRNJ is a project of Make the Road States. Founded in 2014, MRNJ operates centers and organizing hubs in Elizabeth, Passaic, Perth Amboy and Newark, NJ that reach thousands of immigrant and working class people of color each year. Our member-led organizing committees -- which work on the issues named above-- implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop leadership and the capacity for civic participation. In the past four years, MRNJ has won more than 10 pro-immigrant and pro-worker policies, including the nation's first guaranteed severance law, landmark anti-wage theft legislation, occupational and drivers’ license for undocumented immigrants and a $15 minimum wage. We also provide an array of high-quality bilingual services including ESOL, legal services in the areas of immigration and workplace rights, workplace safety training and college access. This provision is included in a Union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining. Current Opening: The Case Manager will work with the legal and organizing teams to provide service support to members and clients. The Case Manager will additionally work with members and staff to provide education. This is an in-person, salaried position, primarily out of our branch in Perth Amboy, NJ; some travel to our other branches and nearby areas will be required. This position is included in a Union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining. Key Responsibilities but not limited to: • Work with MRNJ’s legal, organizing, and services teams to meet service needs; provide individualized assistance to community members and clients in accessing services through intake, needs assessment, application assistance, accompaniment, referrals, follow-up, and advocacy, helping individuals navigate systems and overcome barriers to accessing care and community resources;, • Coordinate frequent community clinics, workshops, and service events based on organizational priorities;, • Manage active caseload as determined by department and annual goals, and maintain client files in good order, including photocopying and scanning applications, letters, supporting documentation, and follow-up work. Ensure the completion of detailed and accurate client and case information in Legal Server or other case management system;, • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, healthcare providers, and community-based service partners to improve member access to critical resources, including healthcare, mental health services, educational resources, public benefits, legal services, housing support, and social services;, • Develop, organize, and maintain updated referral resources, including provider and partner contacts, service eligibility criteria, and step-by-step referral processes, to streamline client access to internal and external services; ensure members receive timely referrals, follow-up, education, and direct access to care and support services;, • Lead and support rapid response efforts;, • Provide warm hand-off and follow-up to members and clients when needs fall outside program expertise, ensuring connection to appropriate external providers and support services;, • Create both external and internal facing educational materials regarding access to services and promotional materials for organized community events;, • Conduct outreach via street canvassing and phone banking to recruit for aforementioned workshops, clinics, and service events;, • Support the implementation and recruitment efforts to grow our membership base throughout the state;, • Provide support and participation for organization-wide and national campaigns, civic engagement initiatives, and other events;, • Participate in team and department meetings and assist with grant reports;, • Participate in ongoing continuing education and other trainings related to areas of case management and services support;, • Stay informed on local, state and national politics, organizational programs, campaigns, and operational developments to ensure accurate and consistent communication with members, partners, and the public. Proactively engage in continuous learning and application of movement principles as well as other critical concepts that underscore our organizational approach to building power, such as racialized capitalism;, • Maintain work space and shared areas in a clean and tidy manner at all times;, • Be responsible for monitoring, transporting, and/or ensuring the return of MRNJ equipment;, • Attend, participate in, and/or facilitate MRNJ’s events, meetings, and trainings as needed;, • Uphold MRNJ’s values and mission;, • May perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: • Eligible to work in the US;, • Bachelor’s degree or higher;, • At least 2 years of case management experience;, • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and immigrant rights. Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-and moderate-income families; Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse client population as well as with community members, co-workers, and the public;, • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and organizational skills; emotional maturity;, • Language Skills: Proficiency in English and Spanish required;, • Desire to work collaboratively; self-motivated; detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize assignments and workload;, • Manages shifting priorities and unexpected challenges effectively;, • Microsoft Office or Google Suite proficiency;, • Knowledge of or willingness to learn database and communication platforms;, • Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events and meetings, as needed;, • A valid driver’s license and vehicle and be willing to drive for work purposes preferred. Salary and Benefits: MRNJ offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days.
