Job Description Working alongside members of the North Valley Rural Tobacco Project Team, the Health Promotions Intern will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education, and advocacy. The intern will assist the North Valley Tobacco Project in executing health promotion and tobacco prevention activities to gain experience in the field of outreach, education, evaluation, health policy, and community organizing in the context of tobacco prevention. The intern will support Smokefree Multi-Unit Housing and Smokefree Outdoor Air campaign efforts in Gridley (Butte County), and Marysville (Yuba County). In collaboration with the project team, the intern will attend community events, assist in data collection, and participate in workgroup meetings. This is a paid internship position requiring a minimum time commitment of 10 – 15 hours per week (flexible schedule) and may be eligible for course credit. This position is for Spring 2026. The hourly rate for this position is $18.00 per hour. PROJECTS This internship offers a valuable opportunity to build skills in organization, multi-tasking and communications. Interns will gain confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting with the following activities: Organization & Technical Skills • Learn about the mission of American Lung Association, • Gain technical training by utilizing Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Microsoft Teams., • Gain understanding of communication strategies employed by the Lung Association., • Draft media materials such as press releases, facts sheets and briefing documents., • Compile media lists, calendars, and communications plans., • Research and summarize public health facts and figures., • Identify, schedule, and participate in outreach and tabling events., • Create and deliver presentations on smoke-free initiatives and tobacco-related topics., • Prepare educational materials for events and presentations., • Recruit and engage community members for project participation., • Understand non-profit structure, mission, and communication practices., • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams proficiently., • Collaborate effectively in a team environment., • Develop communication materials for health education, outreach, and policy., • Recruit, mobilize, and engage community members in advocacy efforts., • Deliver effective health education in outreach settings., • Build and maintain professional relationships., • Must be working towards a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Non-Profit Management, or a related field., • Must be currently enrolled at California State University Chico or Butte College., • Qualified candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable, and interested in developing a career in Public Health, Health Sciences, Advocacy, or Non-profit Management., • Qualified candidates should possess strong writing skills, attention to detail, and have a keen interest in the mission of the American Lung Association., • Ability to multitask, perform in a team environment, and demonstrate willingness to learn., • Ability to work independently., • Reliable transportation., • Computer Proficiency – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher., • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
