Job Description Job Title: Shop Foreman Location: Jamaica, NY (JFK Airport) Pay: $35/hr-$45/hr Shift: Monday-Friday 2pm-10:30pm Type of Position: 6 month contract to hire Job Description The Shop Foreman leads the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations. This role oversees daily shop performance, ensures compliance with quality and safety standards, manages workflow and staff scheduling, and supports exceptional customer service through accurate maintenance records and timely repairs. Responsibilities • Lead and manage the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations., • Oversee the daily workflow, including vehicle turnaround times, productivity, repairs, breakdowns, and new work requirements., • Manage the workshop floor and associated yard, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and compliance with operational standards., • Conduct daily reviews of completed work to ensure all parts, labor, and work descriptions are accurately recorded., • Provide regular performance and operational updates to senior operations leadership., • Oversee daily servicing, repairs, maintenance planning, inspections, cleaning, and auditing to meet company standards., • Lead local projects from planning through completion, coordinating with landlords, vendors, and internal teams as needed., • Obtain required customer approvals before work begins and manage the chargeable defect authorization process, including warranty repairs., • Monitor and ensure adherence to key performance indicators, budgets, and service standards., • Ensure all defects are repaired effectively and that maintenance and repair records are maintained accurately., • Ensure safe work systems and practices are followed at all times and that toolbox talks are delivered on schedule., • Manage shift patterns, scheduling, and staff availability to meet operational and customer service needs., • Take accountability for overall workshop productivity by effectively managing technician workload, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance and repair activities., • Address performance issues through coaching, development, and formal disciplinary processes when required., • Manage absence, sickness, and lateness in line with company policy and conduct return-to-work interviews., • Collaborate closely with lead mechanics in the shop to support technical excellence and continuous improvement. Essential Skills • 3–5 years of experience working as a Shop Foreman or Lead Mechanic., • Hands-on experience with diagnostic and repair of diesel and automotive engines., • Experience working with cooling systems and analog systems., • Strong supervision and management skills with proven shop management experience., • Ability to manage diesel maintenance operations and ground support equipment (GSE) in a shop environment., • Ability to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge for airport access., • Good computer skills with proficiency in Excel., • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy workshop while maintaining safety and quality standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Auto Mechanic., • Experience in roles such as GSE Manager or Diesel Manager., • Cummins engine experience preferred., • Comfort working with shop management systems and related computer applications., • Strong communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and customers., • Ability to coach and develop technicians and other workshop staff., • Interest in pursuing professional certifications such as ASE., • Willingness to obtain a CDL license with company support. Work Environment The role is based in an indoor mechanic shop environment located at an airport facility. Temperatures can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer, and work takes place on and around the shop floor and associated yard with active maintenance operations. The atmosphere is laid back and team-oriented, with everyone helping each other and working closely with lead mechanics. The position is on second shift, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Steel-toed boots are required, and a company-provided uniform is worn while on duty. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jamaica, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
