AWAKE OVERNIGHT STAFF – These are staff that work overnight shifts but stay awake throughout their shift. In addition to the The above responsibilities the DSP working the awake-overnight position will: • Complete bed checks, as applicable and document on logs • Complete, read and file appropriate documentation including progress notes and critical incident reports. • Support all individuals within the program at bedtime and morning routines as written in the habilitation plans. • Respond to all emergencies, as per the Organization incident reporting policy. • Follow the overnight shift assignments Your Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalency Diploma; Preferred Six months work experience with individuals with I/DD. Willingness to continue to develop professional skills and educational opportunities. LANGUAGE SKILLS Good written and verbal communication skills; Bi-lingual a plus; ability to learn basic sign language when needed MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Basic routine documentation and tabulation of progress REASONING SKILLS Able to align POMS/ Code of Ethics/ DSP competencies and incorporate standards into daily activities and support offered to individuals within all programs. COMPUTER SKILLS Basic computer skills required, such as Word, Excel etc. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS Must be cleared through a Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting by Justice Center, MHLS, and OCFS; must acquire and maintain mandatory training as required (AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid); must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License (except for Community Habilitation Services). OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Positive attitude towards working with individuals with developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and ability to success fully work in a team environment including with other staff, families, and community members. DSP’s must be able to demonstrate creativity and flexibility in their daily job activities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Able to demonstrate skills and support individuals with disabilities; able to assist an individual physically when needed; able to lift and/or assist a person in an emergency WORK ENVIRONMENT Able to tolerate and work in a busy and stimulating environment. Able to encourage positive attitude toward individuals’ capabilities and limitations due to his/her disabilities. DSP’s must be open to support individuals in a variety of community settings.
