Position Overview The Quality Engineer is responsible for owning, executing, and continuously improving the defect reporting and corrective action system across manufacturing and field returns. This role is highly hands-on, spending significant time on the shop floor investigating defects, implementing containment actions, leading root cause analysis, and verifying corrective actions. This position serves as the primary quality problem-solver, bridging production, engineering, supply chain, and customer-facing functions to ensure defects are identified, understood, corrected, and prevented. Responsibilities Include Defect Reporting & Data Ownership • Own and maintain the defect reporting process, including NCRs, internal defects, customer complaints, and RGA intake, • Ensure defects are consistently captured, categorized, and trended, • Actively support on-the-floor investigations, including:, • Defect containment and segregation, • Measurement, inspection, and verification, • Review of welds, assemblies, pressure parts, and fabrication processes, • Partner with production supervisors, operators & inspectors to resolve real-time quality issues, • Lead and facilitate RCA activities using structured methods (5-Why, Fishbone, fault tree, etc.), • Ensure root causes address process failure, not operator blame, • Own the CAPA system from initiation through effectiveness verification, • Define corrective and preventive actions with clear owners and due dates, • Verify effectiveness through follow-up audits, data review, and shop-floor validation, • Manage or support RGA and field failure analysis, • Coordinate teardown, inspection, and documentation of returned products, • Create and revise quality procedures, work instructions, and inspection plans, • Support internal audits and external audits as needed, • Identify systemic improvement opportunities based on defect trends Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related technical field, • 3–8 years of experience in a manufacturing quality role, • Demonstrated experience with:, • NCR, RCA, and CAPA systems, • Hands-on shop-floor problem solving, • Defect analysis and reporting, • Strong data and analysis skills (Excel or equivalent), • Ability to communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, and leadership, • Physical & Work Environment Requirements, • Regular presence on the manufacturing floor, • Ability to inspect parts, review welds, and observe production processes, • Occasional lifting, standing, and walking as required in a production environment Preferred Requirements • Experience in fabrication, welding, pressure vessels, or industrial equipment, • Familiarity with ASME codes, ISO 9001, or similar quality systems, • Experience supporting customer complaints or warranty / RGA processes, • Lean or continuous improvement exposure
