Job Description Job Title: Production Supervisor – EV Manufacturing Job Description The Production Supervisor leads a high-volume manufacturing team in an electric vehicle components plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role oversees daily operations, drives performance in safety, quality, productivity, and cost, and builds strong, engaged teams in a fast-paced, unionized environment. The supervisor manages change, supports launch and pilot activities, and applies lean manufacturing principles to meet production schedules and continuous improvement goals. Responsibilities • Lead and manage daily manufacturing operations, adjusting plans as needed to meet production schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements., • Drive performance across safety, quality, productivity, cost, and efficiency, with a strong SPQRCE focus., • Oversee production activities, including quality inspections, problem-solving, and built-in quality initiatives., • Train, develop, and evaluate hourly team members, typically leading teams of around 20 employees in a manufacturing, production, or supply chain environment., • Build and sustain high-performing teams by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering accountability., • Motivate employees using standardized work methods and ensure consistent adherence to standard operating procedures., • Ensure team members receive adequate Job Instruction Training (JIT) and verify that training is effectively applied on the floor., • Coach, counsel, and mentor other Group Leaders to strengthen leadership capability across the operation., • Lead and support Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes or similar operating systems to drive operational excellence., • Serve as a resource for launch and pilot activities, supporting new product or process introductions., • Meet or exceed production, cost, and schedule objectives by effectively planning labor, materials, and equipment utilization., • Apply lean and synchronous manufacturing principles and variation reduction techniques to improve throughput and reduce waste., • Implement systems and countermeasures that prevent recurrence of known issues, using data-driven problem-solving., • Maintain awareness of quality standards and expectations, and ensure all processes consistently meet required quality levels., • Promote and enforce safe work practices, including ergonomics and housekeeping, and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workplace., • Understand and consistently administer National and Local UAW Agreements, ensuring a respectful and compliant work environment., • Ensure effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to support continuous improvement in material flow and supply chain efficiency., • Troubleshoot operational issues in real time and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and defects., • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on precision manufacturing, on-time delivery, and adherence to cost and quality targets., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Experience leading teams in a manufacturing, production, or supply chain environment, typically supervising at least 20 people with approximately 2+ years of leadership experience., • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, develop, and evaluate hourly employees in a high-volume environment., • Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and variation reduction., • Proven experience meeting production schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements., • Ability to promote and enforce safe work practices, including safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping standards., • Ability to build and sustain high-performing teams and drive accountability., • Experience managing performance, resolving conflict, and motivating employees using standardized work methods., • Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, and typing., • Willingness and availability to work rotating shifts and weekends in a 24/7 operation., • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment., • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with hourly employees, peers, and leadership., • Associate or bachelor’s degree is highly preferred and may be required for direct hire opportunities., • Experience in automotive manufacturing or other high-volume production environments., • Familiarity with Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) or similar manufacturing operating systems., • Prior experience supporting launch or pilot production activities for new products or processes., • Experience working within a unionized environment; UAW experience is ideal but not required., • Knowledge of built-in quality initiatives and methodologies such as DFSS or Red X certification., • Understanding of timekeeping systems and labor tracking processes., • Experience in supervision, leadership development, safety, project scheduling, process improvement, and quality control., • Experience in production, materials, or supply chain leadership roles, such as Group Leader in Quality, Production, or Materials. Work Environment The role is based in a large components manufacturing facility that focuses on heat transfer components such as radiators, condensers, and heater cores for various vehicles, and is undergoing significant investment to produce electric motor components for an advanced EV platform. The plant employs over 1,500 people, with plans to add hundreds of positions, making it a key center for electric motor components and ensuring long-term relevance in the EV market. The environment is fast-paced, high-volume, and unionized, with a strong emphasis on precision production, continuous improvement, strict safety standards, and on-time delivery to quality and cost targets. Operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shifts may include rotating schedules and fixed shifts: one schedule rotates weekly between 1st shift (approximately 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.) and 2nd shift (approximately 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), while another schedule is strictly 3rd shift (approximately 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.). Team members are expected to arrive about 30 minutes before shift start, work 6–7 days per week, and remain open to working all shifts, including weekends. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
