The unit began with strategy, technical expertise and sales all held in one place. Technical capability has grown since; strategy and commercial ownership have not. Formalising the practice - defining the team, the roles and the commercial structure - is part of the job rather than something the incoming Head inherits finished. This role has both external and internal responsibilities: Externally, it owns our AI go-to-market offerings and the customer, partner and pre-sales activity that turns them into pipeline, and it is the company's public voice on applied AI. External responsibilities These responsibilities are customer-facing, partner-facing and public facing: Relentless client focus - Maintaining a relentless client focus, calibrated to how mature the business unit is, and being decisive about where to concentrate effort and what to stop. Early on that means client meetings and pipeline growth; later it means shifting weight to larger, more sustainable areas of demand. AI go-to-market offerings - Defining and owning our AI go-to-market offerings, working with sales to take them to market. Client collateral - Developing reusable client collateral (opportunity assessments, roadmaps and business cases) grounded in real delivery experience. Keeping it current as the offerings and the technology move and making it available to the delivery and commercial teams rather than rebuilt for each deal. Partner and industry relationships - Building and owning our AI partner and industry relationships (AWS, Anthropic, OpenAI and relevant industry bodies), including the technical relationship, joint go‑to‑market activity, and achieving and maintaining the respective AI partner competencies that matter to our customers. An existing network inside our partners is a significant advantage, as is fluency in how each organisation works, where it sits in the market and what it is seeking to achieve commercially. Thought leadership and public voice - Providing thought leadership on applied AI and establishing the company's public voice through speaking, meetups, blogs and whitepapers. Building our standing in external applied AI communities and contributing to industry discussion, with material grounded in work we have delivered. Market awareness - Tracking the AI market as it moves - model releases, tooling and emerging frameworks - and forming a clear view on what is credible, what is hype, and what the company should adopt. Bringing that view to the Leadership Team early enough to act on it, and setting our position on what we adopt, what we monitor and what we set aside. Reviewing architecture and design decisions and acting as the decision‑maker when a technical call is needed. Building and leading the practice - Building and leading our AI practice: owning the company's AI strategy and the roadmap to deliver it, hiring and line‑managing the team as it grows, capability development, and a repeatable methodology and delivery standards that make quality consistent regardless of who is leading the engagement. Defining the capability model and establishing the practice as an internal centre of excellence for review and quality assurance as it grows. Decomposing and delegating ownership - Breaking broad areas of activity into distinct responsibilities that can be delegated and genuinely owned, and building the team to hold them. The scope of this role is deliberately broader than one person can carry: the expectation is that the Head of Applied AI grows a team around them - including the AI enablement hires already in train - and leads through that team rather than delivering everything personally. Internal AI usage guidance, reviewing internal projects, pre‑sales attendance, marketing campaigns and enablement workshops each need a named owner; an informal approach works while the unit is small but will not scale. Accelerators and intellectual property - Building reusable AI accelerators and intellectual property that shorten and de‑risk customer delivery. Registering the assets as the work matures - accelerators, frameworks and reference architectures - and working with engineering to keep them testable and current as models and tooling evolve. Treating them as the company intellectual property with standalone value rather than delivery tools alone. Company‑wide AI enablement - Enabling every the company employee to work with AI, including defining our internal AI learning pathways. Setting the guidance for how AI is used in our own work and running the enablement activity that puts it into everyday use across the whole company rather than the practice alone. Internal community of practice - Growing an internal AI community of practice, giving colleagues outside the team a route to learn and contribute. Running it as a standing forum rather than ad‑hoc sessions, so that colleagues outside the practice can build AI capability alongside their own work. Candidate profile This is a senior role combining technical depth with commercial ownership. We expect candidates to demonstrate the following: Technical depth in applied AI - Current, hands‑on understanding of AI technologies, models and tooling, sufficient to direct development work, review architecture and design decisions, and hold credible technical conversations with client engineers and architects. Commercial track record - Experience owning a revenue or gross profit target, building the pipeline behind it, and reporting against a plan. Comfortable being measured on financial outcomes rather than activity. Jira Developer - Business analysis, implementation and support (Zoho Desk) Location: Milton Keynes, hybrid (three days in the office, two remote)|Permanent About the role My client runs its customer and partner communication on Zoho Desk, a case management platform. It is connected to our back-office systems through a library of custom interfaces, and it supports teams across the business. We are looking for a person who will own this platform end to end. You will work with a department to understand how it operates today, design how the platform should support it, build the configuration and work with our developers on any code needed, test it with the users, train them, and support them afterwards. There are two business analysts to work alongside, but they are business-focused rather than technical. You are the lead for the platform and the link between the business analysts and our developers. This is a full-time role in its own right. Many areas of the business have not yet moved onto the platform, and the main reason has been a shortage of technical capacity. Your job is to remove that constraint. The platform may also be extended to other parts of the wider group. You do not need to have used Zoho Desk. We appreciate that Zoho Desk specialists are rare, and we do not expect one. We are looking for someone who has done this kind of work on a comparable platform and can apply it here (see "Experience we value" below). What you will do Understand the business Work with department heads and teams to understand their current process, where the work arrives from and where it goes next. • Decide, with the business analysts, whether a process belongs in Zoho Desk or in a back-office system, keeping to the principle that Zoho handles customer communication while customer data stays in the system of record. • Write clear requirements, process maps and acceptance criteria. Plan delivery in stages, starting simple and adding to it as the team becomes comfortable. Configure the platform Set up departments, agents, roles and profiles, layouts and custom fields, statuses, views, email templates, SLAs and knowledge base articles. • Build workflow rules, assignment rules, macros and Blueprints, including the Deluge scripts that sit behind them. • Manage the platform within its licence limits, including custom field capacity, and keep it tidy by retiring what is no longer used. • Apply the standing controls: vulnerable-customer flags, data retention and subject access support. Work with developers on integrations Specify the interfaces that connect Zoho Desk to my clients other systems, and work with our developers, who build them (currently in PHP) using the Zoho REST API and webhooks. If you can write some of them yourself, that is a real advantage. • Identify where automation can remove manual work, such as email processors that read standard supplier emails and update tickets, scheduled jobs, approval-by-email links and data synchronisation, and specify and test them with the developers. • Diagnose problems with existing interfaces and agree fixes with the developers. Changes to a Blueprint can break automation silently, so you will manage those changes carefully. • Write and maintain technical documentation, and keep credentials and secrets out of code and documents. Test, train and support Plan and run testing and user acceptance testing with the business. • Train end users and team leaders, and write the guidance and knowledge base articles they need. • Be the point of escalation for the platform: investigate root causes, fix issues and advise on how to use it well. • Report on how the platform is used and recommend improvements, including new channels (telephony, live chat) and the sensible use of AI and automation. Grow the platform Maintain a roadmap of departments still to move onto Zoho Desk and agree priorities with the Head of IT. • Prepare the platform for use by other company Leasing businesses, if and when that is agreed. This may mean multi-brand or multi-entity design, and working with my clients own IT, security and governance teams. • Work with the business analysts and coach them in the technical side of the platform. Essential experience Platform administration at depth. Several years administering and configuring a ticketing, case management, CRM or workflow platform (for example Zoho Desk, ServiceNow, Salesforce Service Cloud, Dynamics 365, Freshdesk, Zendesk or Jira Service Management), including workflow automation and custom fields. • Technical aptitude. A good working understanding of how systems integrate through REST APIs and webhooks, enough to specify an interface, test it and work effectively with developers. Experience of scripting or low-code logic within a workflow platform. • Analysis. Experience gathering requirements from non-technical colleagues, mapping processes, and turning them into a working solution. • Delivery to the end user. Experience of testing and UAT, and of training and supporting users after go-live. • Ownership. You will be the main owner of the platform. You are comfortable owning problems, explaining trade-offs plainly, and saying no when something belongs elsewhere. • Communication. Able to talk to a finance director and a developer in the same afternoon. Desirable Experience of writing backend code against REST APIs, particularly PHP. This is a significant advantage, as it would let you build interfaces yourself. • Direct Zoho experience (Desk, CRM, Forms, Sign, Creator or Flow) and Deluge scripting. • SQL, and experience of reporting from a data warehouse or database. • Experience of email-based case management and mail routing, such as Microsoft 365 shared mailboxes. • Experience of Agile delivery. • Experience of regulated financial services, including vulnerable-customer handling and GDPR (retention, subject access requests). • Experience of rolling a platform out to more than one business or brand. • Interest in AI, automation and low-code tools, and in applying them sensibly. Experience we value, even if it is not Zoho Because the role is niche, we expect strong applicants to come from other backgrounds. CRM Developer - Business analysis, implementation and support (Zoho Desk) Location: Milton Keynes, hybrid (three days in the office, two remote)|Permanent About the role My client runs its customer and partner communication on Zoho Desk, a case management platform. It is connected to our back-office systems through a library of custom interfaces, and it supports teams across the business. We are looking for a person who will own this platform end to end. You will work with a department to understand how it operates today, design how the platform should support it, build the configuration and work with our developers on any code needed, test it with the users, train them, and support them afterwards. There are two business analysts to work alongside, but they are business-focused rather than technical. You are the lead for the platform and the link between the business analysts and our developers. This is a full-time role in its own right. Many areas of the business have not yet moved onto the platform, and the main reason has been a shortage of technical capacity. Your job is to remove that constraint. The platform may also be extended to other parts of the wider group. You do not need to have used Zoho Desk. We appreciate that Zoho Desk specialists are rare, and we do not expect one. We are looking for someone who has done this kind of work on a comparable platform and can apply it here (see "Experience we value" below). What you will do Understand the business Work with department heads and teams to understand their current process, where the work arrives from and where it goes next. • Decide, with the business analysts, whether a process belongs in Zoho Desk or in a back-office system, keeping to the principle that Zoho handles customer communication while customer data stays in the system of record. • Write clear requirements, process maps and acceptance criteria. This is a hands‑on engineering leadership role for someone who has already built and operated sophisticated AI systems in production and is ready to define the architecture, engineering standards, evaluation strategy, and technical direction for the next stage of growth. You will work on agentic systems that reason across complex workflows, retrieve and maintain context, use tools, modify application state, and make decisions under real‑world production constraints.
