You will work with a dedicated and friendly team to support learners in achieving positive outcomes and progressing into successful careers.\n\nThere is significant potential for further development and expansion across this curriculum area, and you will play a key role in helping to shape the future of Electrical Installation at Sunderland College.\nYou will plan, promote, deliver, monitor and evaluate your teaching while supporting learners’ academic and personal progress. You will also build positive relationships with parents, employers and industry partners to ensure students receive an outstanding experience.\n\nRole Responsibilities\n\n- Plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate high-quality teaching, learning and assessment from Level 1 to Level 3 Electrical Installation.\n\n- Take responsibility for the recruitment, retention, progress and achievement of students within your programme(s).\n\n- Contribute to curriculum planning, internal and external quality assurance processes, and programme performance reviews.\n\n- Provide high-quality academic and pastoral support, including tracking, monitoring and targeted intervention where required.\n\n- Build and maintain strong employer links to support work experience, site visits and positive learner destinations.\n\n- Support marketing and recruitment activities such as open events, school visits and applicant interviews.\n\nTaking Teaching Further & Additional Incentives\n\nIf you’re making the move into further education teaching, you may be eligible for the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme a funded route to help industry professionals retrain as FE teachers.\n\nIn addition, for roles in high-need subjects or regions you may also benefit from the government’s targeted retention incentive (formerly “levelling-up premium”) payments, worth up to £6,000 for eligible teachers in their first five years and teaching certain shortage subjects.\n\nPlease note eligibility for both TTF and the Targeted Retention Incentive varies by role, subject area and provider, they do not apply to every vacancy.\n\nA Day in the Life of an Electrical Installation Lecturer\n\nA typical teaching timetable will draw from the following core Level 3 Electrical Installation units:\n\n- Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations\n\n- Electrical Scientific Principles and Technologies\n\n- Understand Design and Installation Practices and Procedures\n\n- Understand How to Plan and Oversee Electrical Work\n\n- Understand Terminations and Connections of Conductors\n\n- Inspection, Testing and Commissioning\n\n- Understand Fault Diagnosis and Rectification\n\nClass Size\n\n- Typical class size: 16 students\n\n- This allows for hands‑on support, practical supervision, and good learner engagement.\n\nWeekly Hours Breakdown\n\n- The role is 37 hours per week, including: 24 hours of teaching per week\n\nThese are timetabled lessons, generally split across:\n\n- Classroom theory sessions\n\n- Workshop-based practical sessions\n\n- Tutorials and Global Skills\n\nDepartmental Duties – 13 hours per week\n\nThese hours support the broader delivery, quality, and improvement of the programme.
