We are looking for a highly motivated nurse who is passionate about high quality patient care to join the team of Immunology & Allergy Nurses. The team manage the care of patients with allergies who are having diagnostic tests or treatment as well as the long term management of a client group with primary antibody deficiency. The post does involve some travel to satellite clinics including transporting medical equipment and samples. Therefore, applicants must be car drivers with access to their own car. This is a 12 month fixed term post, with a view to extend to meet service requirements Main duties of the job The post holder will participate in nurse-led clinics providing allergy desensitisation and clinics offering drug and food challenges. The post holder will be part of a nursing team providing the primary point of contact for patients, relatives, carers and clinicians, in relation to the management of immune deficient patients or complex allergies.. The post holder will participate in departmental audit and research programmes and be actively involved in educating others and disseminating good practice. Working for our organisation We are a small, friendly team, looking for a nurse to work closely with the Lead Immunology Nurse, Specialist Nurses and medical team, to provide specialised nursing care for patients with immune deficiencies and allergies in an outpatient and day care setting. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic with excellent communication skills. You will need to be self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative within an MDT team. Some knowledge of immunology and allergy would be an advantage however the opportunity to expand your knowledge will be available and full training will be given. The post does involve some travel to satellite clinics and therefore applicants should be willing to travel and therefore being a car driver is desirable. In return you will be rewarded with an interesting, dynamic and varied role, with no weekend or bank holiday working. Person specification Essential Essential criteria - Registered General Nurse - Recognised teaching qualification ENB998 or equivalent - Degree/Diploma - Evidence of maintenance of clinical competence Desirable criteria - Two years post qualification - Current experience or keen interest in Immunology & Allergy Education/Training/Qualifications Essential criteria - Registered Nurse with current live NMC registration - Degree or Diploma in health-related field - Evidence of continuing professional development Desirable criteria - Teaching and assessing qualification or willing to undertake after 2 years post registration Work Experience Essential criteria - Candidate will have experience in skills required by the ward/ department. i.e. IV drug administration, cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, male catheterisation / evidence of maintenance of clinical competence Desirable criteria - 2 years’ post registration experience - Current experience or keen interest in Immunology & Allergy Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Essential criteria - Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping - Ability to work as part of a team - Sound knowledge of the guidelines set out in the NMC code of professional conduct and current Nursing Issues - Basic computer/ IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service Desirable criteria - Sound knowledge of Trust Policies & practices including manual handling, health & safety and infection control ---------------------------------------- If you apply for this vacancy and have not received a communication from North Bristol NHS Trust within three weeks of the closing date, please assume that on this occasion your application has been unsuccessful.
