Cable Jointer North Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire Permanent Competitive + Commercial vehicle + Flexible Benefits Summary Freedom Networks are currently recruiting for Jointers to be part of a team undertaking cable jointing works on paper/lead and polymeric cables to support the upgrade and replacement of substation equipment in a manner that delivers safe, high workmanship quality and fit for purpose networks for the customer, and which promotes the company in a positive light at all times. The role is based across the Scottish Power DNO region in the North West of England and North Wales Some of the key deliverables in this role will include: • Support with the installation of power cable joints and terminations on paper/lead or polymeric underground or substation cable systems, switchgear, transformers and associated equipment in substations operating from LV up to 33kV., • Progress to "Authorised Person" status under SPEN's Safety Rules, allowing the individual to, • a) have independent access to substations containing live exposed conductors,, • b) to receive a permit to work and, • c) to supervise a working party., • Recognise best practices and promote innovation ideas., • Keep safe and maintain all company property issued, ensure it is routinely PAT or calibration tested and bring to the company’s attention any items that are not of a serviceable nature in a timely manner., • LV/HV Cable jointing or HV fitting experience, • Minimum of 2 years practical or craft skills experience using hand tools., • Basic operational knowledge of electrical or mechanical systems., • Site safety passport and/or experience of working on CDM sites., • Manual Handling Certificate, • DNO Authorisations for SPEN to receive and cancel PTW (or alternative equivalent DNO authorisation i.e. ENW, NPG) - Desirable We're always evolving our benefits to ensure we're attracting and retaining great people. Flue Gas Treatment Commissioning Engineer Overview We are seeking an experienced FGT Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning and start-up of the Flue Gas Treatment system on a large-scale Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of mechanical and Control & Instrumentation (C&I) expertise, with hands-on commissioning experience in waste-to-energy, power generation, or heavy process industries. This role will involve close collaboration with construction, operations, OEMs, and EPC partners to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient commissioning of the plant in line with environmental permit requirements. Key Responsibilities Commissioning & Technical • Lead and execute commissioning activities for the FGT plant, including:, • Fabric filter or ESP, • Dry/semi-dry scrubbers, • Lime and activated carbon injection systems, • ID fans and dampers, • Stack and emissions monitoring interfaces, • Develop and implement commissioning procedures, test plans, and method statements., • Perform functional testing of mechanical equipment, valves, dampers, and rotating machinery., • Carry out loop checking, I/O testing, and functional testing of instruments and control systems., • Support cold & hot commissioning, performance testing, and environmental compliance testing. Controls & Instrumentation • Verify correct installation and operation of:, • Pressure, temperature, flow, and gas analysers, • Emissions monitoring systems (CEMS interface), • Actuated valves and dampers, • Work with DCS/PLC engineers to validate control logic, interlocks, and cause & effect., • Assist in tuning control loops and optimising plant performance. Mechanical • Inspect and sign off mechanical completion for FGT systems., • Troubleshoot issues with:, • Conveying systems (lime/AC), • Fans, ductwork, and expansion joints, • Bag filters and ash discharge systems, • Support punch-list closeout and system handover. Safety & Compliance • Ensure all activities comply with:, • Site HSEQ rules, • Permit to Work systems, • Environmental permit limits, • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and commissioning readiness reviews., • Support emissions compliance testing and optimisation. Documentation & Handover • Produce commissioning reports and test records., • Support development of operating procedures and training materials., • Assist with handover to operations and maintenance teams. Skills & Experience Essential • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, C&I, or Process Engineering (or equivalent experience)., • Proven commissioning experience on: EfW, power plants, or large industrial process plants. Strong understanding of: • Flue Gas Treatment systems, • Process control and instrumentation, • Mechanical plant and rotating equipment, • Ability to read and interpret:, • P&IDs, • Electrical schematics, • Control philosophies, • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills., • Willingness to work shifts and extended hours during commissioning phases. Desirable • Direct experience commissioning EfW FGT systems., • Knowledge of environmental compliance testing and emissions limits., • Experience with DCS/PLC systems (e.g. Siemens, Valmet, ABB, Emerson, Rockwell)., • COMAH or similar regulated site experience.
